The Military Junta In Burma(Myanmar) is widely held to be one of the =
most repressive, corrupt, immoral Governments anywhere in the world. =
They have No Political Legitimacy in their own country, and they have =
repressed by force the Democratically Elected Government chosen by ALL =
the people of Burma.

The Junta is widely known to associate itself with profiteering from =
HEROIN. Also it is widely known for it's brutal Forced Slave Labour and =
Child Labour, Extra Judicial Killings, Gang Rape By Soldiers of rural =
villagers, and other Human Rights Abuses.

The Burma (Myanmar) Junta has been condemnned By:- THE UNITED NATIONS, =
THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANISATION, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL,HUMAN =
RIGHTS WATCH (INTERNATIONAL) THE EUROPEAN UNION GOVERNMENT, CANADA, =
AUSTRALIA, BRITAIN, NETHERLANDS, SWEDEN, NORWAY, AND MANY MORE....

NOBEL PEACE LAUREATES: INCLUDING PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA,THE DALAI =
LAMA, ARCHBISHOP DESMOND TUTU, ETC...have condemned the Juntas policies =
and the house arrest of FELLOW NOBEL LAUREATE, AUNG SAN SUU KYI.

We should not as a Democratic Country which respects Human Dignity and =
Human Rights, as well as Political Self Determination, be seen to be in =
Trade and Diplomatic Partnership with the Myanmar Junta.

We believe that given the Myanmar Juntas Political and Human Rights =
record, there are compelling reasons why South Africa should review it's =
position viz-a-viz Diplomatic and Trade Links with Myanmar, and spell =
out to the Junta that until things change positively we will have no =
further dealings with them.

This protest action is supported by:- THE HUMAN RIGHTS INSTITUTE OF =
SOUTH AFRICA, THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE OF SOUTH AFRICA, , THE SOUTH =
AFRICAN GENDER COMMISSION, THE SOUTH AFRICAN COMMUNIST PARTY....ETC.

Many countries have cut ALL Trade links with Burma(Myanmar) as a way of =
forcing them back to Democracy. EVEN NIGERIA SAID" IT WOULD BE IMMORAL =
FOR NIGERIA TO DO ANY LEGAL BUSINESS WITH A GOVERNMENT THAT IS NOT =
DEMOCRATIC IN NATURE".

WHY ARE WE DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS DISGUSTING REGIME....??

There will be a protest at the "Main Gate" tomorrow (20th) Oct at 12:00 =
by the Free Burma Campaign.
and we will try to hand over a formal protest to the Head of Saitex. =
Concerning the presence of the Myanmar Trade Delegation......

We request your co - operation in respecting our wish that this news =
release be EMBARGOED until 12:00 noon on Wed 20th Oct '99. thank you.
