(1) Secretary l attends Seminar on Introduction of TNTmips Remote Sensing  & 
Geographical InformationSystem in Myanmar and Demonstration of its 
Application in Forestry and Natural Resources Management
        
YANGON, 22 Oct-The Seminar on Introduction of TNTmips Remote Sensing & 
Geographical Information System in Myanmar and Demonstration of its 
Application in Forestry and Natural Resources Management was held at the 
International Business Centre on Pyay Road this morning, attended by 
Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

The seminar was jointly organized by the Forest Department of the Ministry of 
Forestry, Suntac International Trading Co Ltd and Geomapping Technologies Co 
Ltd. On the occasion, Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone elaborated on Remote 
Sensing System and Geographical Information System. 

Mr David Moore of Geomapping Technologies explained Remote Sensing System and 
Geographical Information System with the aid of charts and slides.

The Secretary-1 accepted TNTlite Software?s presented for the ministries by 
Director of Suntac International Trading Co Ltd U Teza. The Secretary-l and 
party and guests viewed the demonstration programmes displayed in the 
hall.Then, Mr David Moore explained matters related to TNTmips System.

After that, group discussions on TNTmips System were held, and the 
demonstration of the application of the system was presented with Computers.

(2) Secretary l attends opening ceremony of Waziya modern cinema
        
YANGON, 22 Oct - A ceremony to open Waziya modern cinema was held at the 
cinema on Bogyoke Aung San Street this morning, attended by Secretary-l of 
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. 

First, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung and U Sein Tin formally opened the cinema.
Then, Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin 
Nyunt pressed the button to unveil the plaque of the cinema.The Secretary-1 
and party inspected the cinema.Film actor U Kyaw Thu formally opened the Wai 
Wai Le lottery shop in front of the cinema.

With a capacity of 826 seats, the cinema has five classes. Admission fees 
are: K 75, K 100, K 125, K 150 and K 200. It operates four shows daily. It 
was renovated by Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon for the welfare fund of its 
members.

(3) Prizes presented to outstanding students of families of Tatmadaw (Air)
    
YANGON, 22 Oct-A ceremony to present prizes to children of the members of the 
Tatmadaw (Air) who won distinctions in the matriculation examination for 
1998-99 was held at Thura Maung Thein Hall of Mingaladon Air Base this 
morning.
Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than gave a speech.

Then, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and officers presented prizes 
to three five-distinction winners, two four-distinction winners, five 
three-distinction winners, six two-distinction winners, and 19 
one-distinction winners.

(4) Ambassador Dr Kyaw Win accredited to Sweden

YANGON, 23 Oct-The Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the 
Union of Myanmar has appointed Dr Kyaw Win, Ambassador Extraordinary and 
Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the United Kingdom of Great 
Britain and Northern Ireland, concurrently as Ambassador Extraordinary and 
Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the Kingdom of Sweden.

(5) Armed Forces Day gives new vigour to young Tatmadaw members

YANGON, 22 Oct-The Management Committee for Observance of the 55th 
Anniversary Armed Forces Day in the year 2000 held a meeting this morning at 
the Management Committee Office in the Resistance Park.Chairman of the 
Management Committee member of the State Peace and Development Council 
Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Counci1 Commander of Yangon 
Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than delivered an address.

As officials have experience in organizing the annually held ceremony. 
efforts should be made for observing the Armed Forces Day on a grander scale 
year after year. Opposing groups are making conspiracies to get the nation to 
fall into servitude. All the subcommittees and work groups must cooperate 
with the Security Subcommittee in taking security measures.

(6) Minister inspects Dalla Shipyards, mv Myeik

YANGON, 22 Oct-Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by 
Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Managing Director of Inland water 
Transport U Tun Aung Myint and Managing Director of Myanma Port Authority U 
Thein Htay, inspected Dalla Shipyards and mv Myeik of Myanma Five Star Line 
today.

This morning, the minister arrived at Nanthida Jetty and then proceeded to 
Dalla Shipyards by boat. There, he inspected the renovation and repair of 
passenger and cargo ships including Aungtagun vessel.

(7) Minister inspects bridge projects
        
YANGON, 22 Oct-Minister for Construction Maj Gen Saw Tun inspected 
construction of a toll gate on Yangon-Pathein Highway this morning. 
Accompanied by Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and officials, the minister heard a 
report on progress in building the toll gate presented by Superintending 
Engineer U Aung Kyaw Myint. The minister gave instruction on installation of 
machinery at the toll gate.

At Bo Myat Tun Bridge (Nyaungdon) Project, the minister and party inspected 
the building of Takwe-Kazan section of the approach structure. Engineers 
presented salient points of the project.

As the new road is being built with the new method, supervision is needed to 
meet the required standard, said the minister. Efforts should be made without 
causing waste of time, labour and materials for completion of the project 
within the scheduled- period, he said, stressing the need to use heavy 
equipment in the most effective way.

(8) Respects paid to teachers at All round Development School for the Children
YANGON, 22 Oct-Children of the All-round Development School for the Children 
established by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association paid respects 
to teachers at the school of the comer of Thanthuma and Parami Roads in South 
Okkalapa Township this morning.

Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, 
Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and Central Executive Committee 
members, supervisory committee members, teachers and school children. 
Children paid respects to MMCWA CEC members, officials and teachers. Then, 
Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and officials presented 
prizes to the children.

(9) Cash donated to MMCWA

YANGON, 22 Oct-A ceremony to donate US $ 1,000 to delivery room of Myanmar 
Maternal and Child Welfar Association by Professor of United Kingdom Mr 
Edward Goldwyn and wife was held at the meeting hall of MMCWA at the corner 
of Thanthumar Road and Parami Road in South Okkalapa Township at I pm 
today.Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe accepted the donation 
and spoke words of thanks.were Vice Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and 
executives and donors.

(10)    Ministry of Health holds second four-monthly meeting
        
YANGON, 22 Oct ? The second four-monthly work coordination meeting of the 
Ministry of Health was held in the meeting hall of Medical Research 
Department on Ziwaka Road this morning, addressed. by Minister for Health 
Maj-Gen Ket Sein.
In his address, the minister said the Ministry of Health needs to provide 
health care services for farmers and workers, who are productive forces, 
thereby contributing towards economic development of the State. The meeting 
will continue tomorrow.

(11)    Morison International Consultancy and Accountancy Firm holds meeting
YANGON, 22 Oct - Morison International Consultancy and Accountancy Firm held 
annual conference for Asia and the Pacific region for 1999 this morning at 
Trader Hotel. Resource persons and officials discussed Myanmar?s economic 
development, investment opportunities, rules and regulations in setting 
companies and bringing out statisticians and administrator.

Over 40 economic consultants, accountants and auditors representing the 
countries of the Asia and Pacific region are taking part in the meeting which 
will continue till 25 October.

(12)    MMB opens Lashio Branch
        
YANGON, 22 Oct- A branch of Myanmar Mayflower Bank Ltd opened in Lashio this 
morning. Commander Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo made a speech on the 
occasion, saying that private banks including MMB are to be industrious for 
development of banking, which is important in striving for development of a 
nation, in accordance with the State?s objectives.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein also gave a speech, saying that was the 13th bank 
branch MMB had opened. MMB Lashio Branch is to ensure more convenience of 
monetary matters of businesses, border trade, agriculture and others in the 
region, he said and urged private banks to follow the rules and regulations 
set by Myanmar Banks Association.

MMB Chairman U Kyaw Win then expressed thanks. Minister U Khin Maung Thein 
unveiled the signboard of the bank.The commander, the minister, the chairman 
and Executive Director U Win Naing formally opened the bank. 

The present MMB bank branch is the 13th one in the country and the third one 
in Shan State. It is scheduled to open two more branches in Kengtung and 
Muse, one more each in Mandalay and Yangon.

(13)    ASEAN-ROK cultural meet

YANGON, 22 Oct-A welcoming ceremony for the ASEAN and ROK delegation was held 
at Yuzana Hotel on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this morning. Deputy Minister for 
Culture U Soe Nyunt made a speech on the occasion. Ambassador Mr Chung Jung 
Gum also spoke on the occasion. U Khin Maung Tint (Tekkatho Phone Naing) and 
Dr Than Tun read the cultural papers.

(14)    Photographic Competition winners announced

YANGON, 22 Oct-Chairman of Organizing Committee for Tenth National Motto, 
Literary and Photographic Competitions Deputy Minister for Information U 
Thein Sein scrutinized colour photo entries in the photographic competition 
at the meeting hall of Information and Public Relation Department on Pansodan 
Street at noon today. A total of 146 colour photos were entered in the photo 
competition entitled ? Developing Union of Myanmar?. 

In the competition, AK Moe (Zoology) won first, Shwe Intha Khin Maung Win was 
second and Aung Min Oo (MR) third and special prizewinner were Htein Linn 
(Shweti), UNESCO Tun Aung Kyaw, Nyo Win Aung (Taunggyi), Captain Than Zaw 
(Yadanabon) and Hlaing Myat Soe.

(15)    21 members resign from Pakokku Township NLD

YANGON, 22 Oct-Twenty-one members resigned from the National League for 
Democracy of Pakokku Township, Magway Division. 

Twenty-one members of Pakokku Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own 
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pakokku Township 
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party 
concerned on 7 October 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party 
politics of NLD.
