JUDICIAL SYSTEM IN BURMA

JUDICIAL SYSTEM IN BURMA
**************************************
By Julien Moe

30TH OCTOBER 1999

Nations have ignored what is happening in Burma. Free and fair elections
were held in 1990. The election results have been dishonoured by the
military brasshats. The first world has imposed sanctions on Burma. Yet if
the first world thinks what they have done is enough, they are dead wrong.
The military regime's media has been announcing how many of the NLD members
have been resigning on a daily basis.

There were three opstions for the military government about Opposition
Leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

1.To exile her by force
2.To assassinate her
3. To systematically eliminate NLD, her party and her supporters by using
force and intimidation.

Obviously the regime chose the third option. Due to the outrageous abuse of
power by the military intelligence officials, the NLD party members and
supporters are being intimidated and disturbed all the time. The so-called
supreme court where only people loyal to the army are apponited has
recently rejected a case filed by the opposition National League for Democracy
(NLD) against the MI. The military brasshats have already told the supreme
court how to say "No" to the plaintiffs. The world should have done better
than this. The United Nations can do far better than the subtle approach
that has been taken so far. The judicial system in Burma is in the military
brasshats' hands. There is no law. And the law that Burma has is only to
protect the ruling class, the military elites.
