(1) SPDC Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends
felicitations to Turkey
YANGON, 29 Oct-On the occasion of the anniversary
of the Revolution Day of the Republic of Turkey,
which falls on 29 October 1999, Senior General
Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and
Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has
sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency
Mr Suleyman Demirel, President of the Republic of
Turkey.

(2) Secretary-l receives Resident Representative
of WHO
YANGON, 28 Oct-Secretary-l of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received
Resident Representative of WHO Dr Klaus Wagner who
had completed his tour of duty at Dagon Yeiktha of
the Ministry of Defence this morning.

(3) Communication Policy Supervisory Central
Committee meets
YANGON, 28 Oct - The ninth meeting of the
Communication Policy Supervisory Central Committee
was held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of
Communications, Posts and Telegraphs this
afternoon, attended by Chairman of the CPSCC
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Joint Secretary of CPSCC General Staff Officer
(Grade I) of Commander-in-Chief (Army) Office
Lt-Col Yin Maung Sein sought approval for the
minutes of the eighth meeting of CPSCC.
Joint Secretary of CPSCC Staff Officer (Grade I)
of the Directorate of Signals Lt-Col Ye Lwin
reported on matters related to communications
presented by departments and organizations
concerned and decisions.
Brig-Gen Aung Myint reported on conditions of
permitting communication equipment to be used by
companies engaged in agriculture work.
Minister Brig-Gen Win Tin reported on matters
related to GSM cellular phones and CDMA phones and
arrangements for the Internet.
Minister U Thaung reported on requirements of
telephones for Monywa industrial zone.
In replying to reports, the Secretary-2 gave
instructions on making all-out efforts for the
improvement of communications.

(4) Ex-representative-elect of NLD expresses his
wish not to be culprit in political history of
Myanmar
YANGON, 28 Oct - U Thaung Yee, who resigned as
representative-elect of the Constituency-2 of
Danubyu Township on 21 January 1997 because he no
longer wished to participate in the party politics
of NLD, expressed his wish not to be a culprit in
the political history of Myanmar, to voters of the
constituency at the gymnasium of Danubyu Township
this morning.
The ceremony was attended by voters of the
Constituency-2 of Danubyu Township, ex-members of
NLD who already resigned from the party, guests
from non-governmental organizations and the people
exceeding 2,000.
Ex-Vice-Chairman of Danubyu Township NLD U Tun
Shein who already resigned from the party chaired
the ceremony with members of the panel of chairmen
ex-members of NLD U Tin Han of Nyaungchaung
Village and U Kyaw Tint of Kanngu Village of
Danubyu Township who also resigned from the party.
Ex-member of NLD U Than Win of Linlunbin Village
of Danubyu Township who already resigned from the
party acted as master of ceremonies.
Chairman of the ceremony U Tun Shwe made a speech.
Ex-representative-elect U Thaung Yee expressed his
wish not to be a culprit in the political history
of Myanmar.

(5) Padaung People's Hospital gets X-ray,
cardiac machine and new building
YANGON, 28 Oct - A ceremony to hand over an X-ray
machine, a cardiac examination machine and the
building of Padaung People's Hospital to Ministry
of Health was held at the hospital in Padaung
Township, Pyay District, at 8 am yesterday.
Minister Col Tin Hlaing spoke on the occasion.
Head of Division Health Department, Chairman of
Township Peace and Development Council and
officials also spoke on the occasion.
Officials presented related documents of the
building to Head of Division Health Department.
Then, well-wishers made a donation for the medical
stores fund.
Later, the opening ceremony of new two-storey
building of Padaung Basic Education High School No
2 was held at the Basic Education High School at 9
am yesterday in conjunction with a prize
presentation ceremony of Township USDA and Padaung
Township Association.
Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, the
Deputy Director of No I Basic Education Department
formally opened the building and inspected the
multimedia classroom and computer room at the
school.
Then, the prize presentation ceremony for 1998-99
academic year was held at the meeting hall of the
school.
Minister Col Tin Hlaing made a speech on the
occasion.
Minister Col Tin Hlaing presented TV and computers
to officials for multimedia classrooms.
Well-wishers also presented cash for the progress
of the schools.
Acting Secretary of Township USDA spoke words of
thanks.

(6) Minister meets official of Proda
Textile Industries Co Ltd
YANGON, 28 Oct-Minister at the State Peace and
Development Council Chairman's Office and
Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission
Brig-Gen Maung Maung met a delegation led by Mr
David Hung of Proda Textile Industries Co Ltd of
Hong Kong who called at the MIC Office at 2 pm
today.

(7) Members of armed groups exchange arms for
peace
YANGON, 28 Oct-The Government, building national
reconsolidation and upholding Our Three Main
National Causes, laid down and is implementing 12
political, economic and social objectives with a
view to ensuring the emergence of a peaceful,
modern and developed nation.
The remnants of armed groups, realizing the
genuine goodwill and efforts of the Government and
abandoning destructive acts, are exchanging arms
for peace.
Six members of armed, groups exchanged arms for
peace at various military commands in September.
Private Kyawa of MTA with one M-22 automatic
rifle, one magazine and 10 cartridges and private
Aik Kyaw with one gun, two cartridges and one
walkietalkie in the Triangle Region Command, L/cpl
Nay Kye of CNA Chin armed group (south-west
region) and Pa Kay of NNC Naga armed group with
one gun and one cartridge in the North-West
Command, pvt Kala Lay of No 7 Brigade of KNU armed
group with one AK automatic rifle, two M-16
automatic rifles, one M-97 launcher, one No/2
launcher and Vcpl Pha Thula of No 5 Brigade, one
M-16 automatic rifle, one magazine, twenty
cartridges and one walkie-talkie, exchanged arms
for peace.
They were warmly welcomed by officials, who
attended to their needs.

(8) Delegation back from South Africa Trade Fair
YANGON, 28 Oct-A Myanmar delegation led by
Chairman of Working Committee for Displaying
Products at South Africa International Trade Fair
Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint
arrived back here by air this afternoon after
attending South Africa International Trade Fair
held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon
International Airport by advisers to the ministry,
Director-General Col Min Hla Aung of Border Trade
Department, Managing Director U Saw Aung of Myanma
Agricultural Produce Trading, departmental
officials and families of the delegation members.

(9) Mayor attends prizes presentation ceremony
of art competition
YANGON, 28 Oct-The prize presentation ceremony of
"Let's follow the Civics to Upgrade the City"
Painting, Cartoon, Poster Competition sponsored by
Yangon City Development Committee was held at City
Plaza this afternoon.
Mayor U Ko Lay, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa and
officials presented prizes to winners in the
competition.
Then, officials presented gifts to judges.

(10) Minister for Industry-2 arrives back from
Japan
YANGON, 28 Oct - At the invitation of Suzuki Motor
Corporation, an industrial delegation led by
Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin left here
by air on 18 October morning for Japan to
cooperate on industrial work and to study the
production of Suzuki motor vehicles.
They were welcomed at Narita Airport, Tokyo,
Japan, in the evening by Acting Charge d'Affairs
ai of Myanmar Embassy in Japan U L Zaw Goon,
Military Attache Col Khin Maung Win and officials
of Suzuki Motor Corporation.
The minister and party, together with U L Zaw
Goon, met Vice-President of Association for
Overseas Technical Scholarship Mr Shogo Sakakura
and party at its headquarters on 19 October
morning.
They discussed matters related to scholarships.
The minister and party then met Deputy Minister of
International Trade and Industry at 11.30 am.
They discussed bilateral industrial cooperation
between Myanmar and Japan and construction of a
technical training school in upper Myanmar.
In the evening, Myanmar delegation met officials
of Japan Overseas Development Corporation and
Japan International Cooperation Agency.
They discussed bilateral industrial cooperation
between the Myanmar and Japan.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and party attended the
13th Tokyo Motor Show on 20 October morning.
President of Suzuki Motor Corporation Mr Osamu
Suzuki conducted Myanmar delegation round the
show.
The minister and party met Director of MITI Mr
Bunro Shiozowa and officials of AOTS, JODC and
JETRO on 21 October morning.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin met President of
Japan-Myanmar Parliament Association Mr Malooto
Koga in the afternoon.
The minister also met Director General of JETRO Mr
Masayoshi Takata.
The minister and party arrived at Suzuki Motor
Corporation Headquarters on 22 October morning.
The minister met Mr Osamu Suzuki at the
Headquarters.
They discussed production of vehicles at
Myanmar-Suzuki Motor Co Ltd and future programme.
The minister and party then inspected production
of vehicles at Takasuka Factory and Co
Sai-Factory.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and party arrived back
here on 26 October.

(11) 120 members resign from Bago Township NLD
YANGON, 28 Oct-A ceremony to present letters of
resignation of 120 members of Bago Township
National League for Democracy, Bago Division, was
held at the meeting hall of Bago Township General
Administration Department at 9 am on 22 September
1999.
One hundred and twenty members of Bago Township
NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition,
resigned by sending letters of resignation to the
party concerned on 22 September 1999 as they no
longer wished to participate in party politics of
NLD.
Member of Bago Township NLD U Win Maung, on behalf
of the party members, explained their resignation
from the party and handed over the letters of
resignation to Chairman of Township Multiparty
Democracy General Election Sub-Commission U Lu Pe
Win.

Third Leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour begins in
Lashio
YANGON, 28 Oct- The Third Leg of Myanmar London
Golf Tour, jointly held by Myanmar Golf Federation
and Myanmar Professional Golfer's Association with
the assistance of Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar
Pte Ltd, began at Lashio Golf Club in Lashio, Shan
State (North) this morning.
After the golfers had taken their respective
places at the 10th tee, Commander Maj-Gen Thiha
Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Director of Rothmans of
Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd Lt-Col Thein Toe and
Executive of MGF and MPGA Lt-Col Ko Ko Lay (Retd)
declared the tourney open.
In the professional golfer's first day event, Win
,Naing Tun was leading with 71 strokes, Aung Win
second with 72 and Aung Hla Han third with 74.
In the men's amateur first day event, Yin Htwe was
leading with 72, Nanda Kyaw 74, Win Naing (Lashio)
76, Kyaing Win Aung 76 and Zaw Naing Oo 76.
In addition to the main sponsor Rothmans of Pall
Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd, Tiger Beer, Mandalay Rum of
Universal Consumer Goods Co Ltd, Yangon Airways as
the official airline, MIMS-Logistics as the
official tour mover, Max as the official soft

score-keepers Canon as official office equipment

Summary of observations recorded at 09:30 hours
MST: During the past 24 hours, rain or
thundershowers have been isolated in Kachin and
Mon States, scattered in upper Sagaing Division,
Rakhine, Kayah and Kayin States and widespread in
the remaining areas with locally heavy falls in
Mandalay Division and isolated heavy falls in
Magway Division. The noteworthy amounts of
rainfall recorded were Kawthaung 2.80 inches,
Meiktila and Pyinmana 2.05 inches each, NyaungU
1.93 inches, Yemethin 1.61inches and Minbu 1.50
inches.
Maximum temperature on Oct 27 was 26.6C (80F).
Minimum temperature on Oct 28 was 24.0C (75F).
Relative humidity at 0930 hours MST on Oct 28 was
100%.
Total duration of sunshine on Oct 27 was nil
approx.
Rainfall on Oct 28 was 30mm (1.18 inches) at
Yangon Airport, 28m (1.10 inches) at Kaba-Aye and
35mm (1.38 inches) at central Yangon.

thundershowers will be isolated in Kachin, Shan,

According to the observations recorded at 12:30
hours MST today, cyclonic storm over east central
Bay is centered about 360 miles west of Pathein.
It is likely to intensify further and is forecast
to move northwestwards.
Under its influence, rain or thundershowers will
be widespread in Chin and Rakhine States,
Ayeyarwady, Bago, Magway, Mandalay and Yangon
Divisions with isolated heavy falls in Chin and
Rakhine States within next 24 hours commencing
morning today.
