(1) Course No1 in Diplomacy organized by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
concluded
YANGON, 18 Nov - The Course No1 in Diplomacy organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this evening, addressed by Chairman of Myanmar Foreign Affairs Policy Committee Secretary-l of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Afterwards, Minister for Foreign Affairs presented certificates to trainees. After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 had a cordial meeting with course instructors and trainees. A total of 42 trainees attended the Course No 1 in Diplomacy which lasted three months.
Also present on the occasion were ministers, the Chief Justice, the
Attorney-General, deputy ministers, senior officers of the Ministry of Defence,
officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads,
course instructors, special guests and trainees.

(2) Secretary l attends opening ceremony of Photographic Exhibition ? In
the Footsteps of Lord Buddha?
YANGON, 18 Nov - The opening ceremony of Photographic Exhibition ?In the
Footsteps of Lord Buddha? presented by the Embassy of India in Yangon with the
cooperation of Ministry of Religious Affairs was held at Tatmadaw Convention
Hall on U Wisara Road at 8 am today, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Then, Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran extended greetings.
Later, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Minister for Religious Affairs , Minister
for Culture, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Mr Shyam Saran lighted
the oil lamp and opened the exhibition.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, ministers and party paid obeisance to the Buddha
image in the exhibition hall.
Then, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, ministers and party viewed the documentary
photos and religious books at the exhibition.
The exhibition continues till 22 November from 10 am to 5 pm daily.
The exhibition will also be held at the International Theravada Buddhist
Missionary University near Buddha?s Tooth Relic Pagoda on Dhamma Pala Hill in
Mayangon Township between 10 am and 5 pm daily from 26 to 28 November.

(3) Leading Committee for Enhancing Economic Cooperation between Myanmar and
China holds fifth meeting
YANGON, 18 Nov - The fifth meeting of the Leading Committee for Enhancing
Economic Cooperation between the Union of Myanmar and the People?s Republic of
China took place in the meeting hall of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) this
afternoon, attended by Chairman of the Leading Committee Secretary-1 of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
In his address, the Secretary-l said the Union of Myanmar and the People?s
Republic of China are cooperating in economic and industrial undertakings under
the programmes for enhancing cooperation between two countries.
Just as delegates from PRC have come to Myanmar on study tours and held
discussions, so delegates from Myanmar have also gone to PRC on study tours and
held discussions.
As Head of State Senior General Than Shwe has given guidance on development of
industries, works for development of industries are to be speeded up.
Ministries concerned need to take measures to complete industrial cooperation
works between the Union of Myanmar and the People?s Republic of China as quickly
as possible.
In conclusion, the Secretary-l urged officials from ministries concerned to
report on the progress of work done under Myanmar-China economic cooperation
programmes.
Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman?s Office Brig-Gen
Abel reported on conditions of the work done under Myanmar China economic
cooperation programmes.
The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the Secretary-1.
Also present at the meeting were heads of the State Peace and Development
Council Chairman?s Office and departments and officials.

(4) Medicine donated to Ministry of Defence
YANGON, 18 Nov - Well-wisher Managing Director of Woodland Food Co Ltd U Ye
Myint and Daw Khin Myo Wai family donated medicine to Ministry of Defence for
Tatmadawmen and their families at Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda
Road this afternoon, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development
Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen
Tin Oo.
Well-wisher U Ye Myint explained the donation.
Then, U Ye Myint presented 3,000 bottles of Supavit Vitamin C worth K 1.5
million to Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han who presented a
certificate of honour to the well-wishers.
Then, Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han spoke words thanks.

(5) Minister meets ESCAP officials
YANGON, 18 Nov - Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe
Tha met Regional Adviser of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the
Pacific Miss Hidia Aboleda and Senior Statistician Dr Viet Voo of United Nations
Statistics Division at his office at 4.30 pm today.
Also present at the call were Director-General of Central Statistical
Organization and Director-General of Planning Department.

(6) Minister for Information inspects
Kyaunggon TV Retransmission Station,
Pathein District IPRD
YANGON, 18 Nov - Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, accompanied by
Deputy Director-General and Chief Engineer of Myanma Radio and Television and
officials, inspected the TV Retransmission Station in Kyaunggon, Ayeyawady
Division, yesterday morning.
On his arrival at the station, the minister was welcomed by Chairman of Township
Peace and Development Council and members, township level officials, manager of
the station.
First, the minister inspected the TV retransmission station.
In giving instructions to the personnel of the TV retransmission station, the
minister told them to keep the equipment and spare parts with the systematically
compiled accounts, to make efforts to operate the TV retransmission at full
capacity, to coordinate with departments concerned to enable the people in the
division to conveniently enjoy TV programmes.
The minister then proceeded to Pathein by car and arrived there in the evening.
This morning, accompanied by Tactical Operations Commander of South-West
Command, Chairman of Pathein District Peace and Development Council and
officials, the minister inspected the District IPRD Office again and gave
instructions on staff welfare.
The minister also inspected the wall magazine of the District IPRD Office near
the eastern archway of the Shwemawdaw Mahazedi Pagoda in Pathein and gave
instructions on featuring facts about endeavours of the State and the division
in the magazine, making preparations for the forthcoming anniversary of the
Independence Day, on posting the wall magazine at busy area, and making efforts
for increase in the number of membership of the IPRD library.
Then, the minister inspected the site chosen for Pathein TV Retransmission
Station.
He also inspected Kyaunggon Township IPRD.

(7) Minister meets Venerable Shi Ming Yi from
Singapore
YANGON, 18 Nov - Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin met Venerable Shi
Ming Yi from Singapore and party who called at his office at 2 pm today.
Venerable Shi Ming Yi presented US $ 1,500 to Minister for Religious Affairs for
the Tooth Relic Pagoda.
Also present at the call were Director-General of Religious Affairs Department, Director General of Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana , Officer on Special Duty at Ministry of Religious Affairs, Deputy Director-General of Religious Affairs Department and Pro-Rector (Admin) of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University.

(8) Forest management and techniques course
to be opened
YANGON, 18 Nov - The Natural Forest Management and Plantation Establishment
Techniques Training Course is to be opened at the forestry training centre of
the Forest Department in Hmawby from 23 November to 29 December under the
cooperation programme between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos
and the Ministry of Forestry of Myanmar.
Seven forestry officers from Laos will attend the course.
High-ranking officers of the Forest Department, Myanmar Timber Enterprise, and
the Arid Zones Greening Department will teach them practically and
theoretically.

(9) 107 members resign from Palaw Township NLD
YANGON, 18 Nov - One hundred and seven members resigned from the National League
for Democracy of Palaw Township, Taninthayi Division.
One hundred and seven members of Palaw Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of
their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Palaw Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned
on 7 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
