SENTENCE
4th November 1999
An ex-MTA man was sentenced to death by the court martial on the 28th
October 1999. Maung Tu, age 36, had joined the MTA on the 1st April =
1995.
After MTA had surrendered to Rangoon, he had joined with Lieutenant Sai
Luon. He had no discipline, nor an obedient soldier. He had extracted =
bribe
money from drug refineries along the Thai-Burma border. After SSA had =
came
to establish along the Thai-Burma border, they had no choice, Lieutenant
Sai Luon surrendered to the Burmese garrison in Mong Ton. Maung Tu =
joined
the SSA, but still going on his old way. Fearing that he would be =
criticized and punished he deserted from SSA to the Burmese troops in =
Homong.
They often cross the border to Thailand to demand taxes in the Thai
territory, where he also gather information and sent to the Burmese =
troops.
Because of these offences, he was punished to death according to the SSA
rules on 28th October 1999.
