Text of report in English by Indian news agency
PTI Kohima, 14th November:

India and Myanmar (Burma) have decided to adopt a free
movement regime to facilitate easier transit across the border
for improving bilateral ties and New Delhi's draft proposals
on this have been sent to Yangon Rangoon , a senior Home
Ministry official said.

The new regime will facilitate the people to visit either country
through the trade centres on the 1,643-km Indo-Myanmar border
in the northeastern states of India by amending the existing restricted
system, Home Ministry Joint Secretary (NE) G.K. Pillai said here on
Saturday 13th November . Under the present system, people of the
border areas of either side are allowed to go across the border up to a
distance of 25 km for a day, but others have to follow the normal
visa/immigration rules who want to visit either India or Myanmar.
But India in its draft proposal to Myanmar insisted that the people of
border areas be allowed to visit/stay for a certain period, extending
the 25-km limit after the introduction of passes by both sides, he said.
