1109-01 Leading Myanmar Cable Factory To Increase Exports
**Myanmar Sigma Cable Company, a leading joint venture cable production
company plans its export in the coming year.

The company is expected to export over US$250,000 worth of cable per month
starting from early 2000.

Last September the company exported over US$17,000 worth of copper wire to
Singapore.

Myanmar Sigma Cable Company was established as a joint venture between the
local company Stellar Myanmar Company, the Singaporean Sigma Cable Co Pte
Ltd and Thai's Charoong Thai Wire and Cable Public Co. Ltd. It is an ISO
9002 certified company producing various cables and electronic goods in its
factory located in the Hlinethaya Industrial Zone, about 30 km off Yangon.

1109-02 Two Japanese Industrial Companies
**Japan's Environment Construction Engineering Company (ERDEC) and Shin May
Wa Industries Company were introduced to the public at Yangon's Karaweik
Hotel on 6th November.

In attendance were Myanmar's Ministers as well as the Municipal authorities
of Yangon and Mandalay. The two Japanese industrial companies talked about
their profiles and the vehicles and machinery they produce.

1109-03 Oil Palm Plantation Thrives In South
**Myanmar's Regional Agricultural Development Committee met in Yangon on
6th November to coordinate with entrepreneurs engaged in the oil palm
plantation business in Myanmar's southern Tanintharyi province.

Currently, a total of 19 Myanmar companies are engaged in oil palm
plantation work on over 6,000 acres of land in the province.

One leading Myanmar agricultural company Service Int'l (SI) is planning to
put up oil palm plantations on 30,000 acres of land over the next three
years in Kawthaung, in Myanmar's Tanintharyi province.

1109-04 French Tourists On Chartered Flight to Visit Myanmar
**A group of French tourists arrived at the Yangon Int'l Airport on 4th
November in a chartered plane from Bangkok, Thailand.

The 209 French tourists and 19-crew member will travel Yangon and ancient
central Myanmar town of Bagan during their stay in Myanmar up to 8 November.

1109-05 Myanmar Rice To African Market
**Last month Myanmar exported over 20,000 tons of rice to Africa. Currently
the price of Myanmar rice in the international market is around US$ 210 per
ton.

During this fiscal year (1998-99) Myanmar exported over 100,000 tons of
rice to African nations.

Myanmar exported a total of 270,000 tons of rice during the past year. This
year as Myanmar's crop harvest is more promising than last year, the rice
export figure will increase by 30,000 tons.

1109-06 Companies In Brief
**Every Tuesday Myabuzz will include news about companies operating in
Myanmar.  These may be trivia or information about the companies'
businesses in the country:

1. Last weekend Myanmar's Orchestra Company opened a clear water seaside
resort in famous Ngapali beach at the western part of Myanmar. The resort
includes a 26-room hotel and other facilities for the local and overseas
visitors. The 3-km long Ngapali beach is only a one-hour flight from Yangon.

2. Last weekend a leading private bank, Myanmar Mayflower Bank opened new
branches in Myanmar second capital, Mandalay and in the upper Myanmar
commercial city of Monywa. The bank already has 13 branches nationwide.
Mayflower Bank is owned by Mayflower Company, which is engaged in a variety
of businesses in Myanmar. The company has also established a plywood and
timber factory in collaboration with the Chin Su (Phil) Company Ltd of the
Philippines.

3. Myanmar-based Quartz Int'l Company organized Fashion wear, Design and
Consumer Product Fair'99 in Yangon last week. A total of 123 booths were
arranged for the 70 local and foreign companies to display their goods at
the fair.
