(1)  Drug Dependency Treatment and Rehabilitation Camp Inspected

     Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development
Council inspected Drug Dependency Treatment and
Rehabilitation Camp (Shwepyitha) in Pyay, Bago
Division on 19 November. Officials concerned reported
on aims and objectives of the camp, the opening of the
training courses at the camp, treatment and
rehabilitation, cultivation of monsoon  paddy,
sugar-cane,  perennial crops, shade trees, flowering
plants and vegetables, agricultural  undertakings, the
breeding of poultry, pig and cattle,  availability of
drinking and agricultural water, welfare work and
health care services. The Secretary-1 said assistance
is being provided for Shwepyitha Camp with a view to
nurturing youths in need of social health due to
narcotic drugs to be  able to participate in human
society again. It is necessary to nurture all those
attending the training course at the camp to be free
from narcotic drugs as well as to have spiritual
development to such an extend they no longer want to
use narcotic drugs. Trainees are to be  taught
agriculture undertakings, livestock breeding and
domestic science to be able to make their livelihood
and start a new life and to be of use to the nation.
 
(2) Basic Demography Course and Computer Course of Population Development 
Concluded

    The closing ceremony of Basic Demography Course No 1
and Basic Computer Course No 4 of the Population
Department was held at the training hall of the
department on Maha Bandoola Street on 19 November in
conjunction with the opening ceremony of Data
Processing Programming Course. Also present on the
occasion were Minister, Deputy Minister for
Immigration and Population, Director-Generals, senior
officials and course instructors. Every staff of the
department is required to know basic demography and
basic computer science, to practically apply their
knowledge and to always study to improve efficiency.

(3) In the Footsteps of Lord Buddha Photo Exhibition Continues

    In the Footsteps of Lord Buddha Photo Exhibition,
organized by the Indian Embassy with the cooperation
of the Ministry of Religious Affairs continued at
Tatmadaw (Defence Services) Convention Hall. The
exhibition continues from 10 am to 5 pm daily up to 22
November. Admission is free. Altogether 4,395
including 86 teachers, 2,430 students, 1,763 people
and 116 members of the Sangha visited the exhibition
on 18 November. 

(4) Training Workshop on National Accounts Concluded

    The closing ceremony of the Training Workshop on
compilation of 1993-SNA in Myanmar jointly organized
by the Ministry of National Planning and Economic
Development, Central  Statistical Organization and
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the
Pacific was held at the meeting hall of National
Archives Department on 19 November. Present on the
occasion were Director-General of Central Statistical
Organization, Regional Adviser on National Accounts,
Ms. Hedi R Arboleda of ESCAP, Senior Statistician of
United Nations Statistics Division, Dr. Viet Vu,
Resident Representative of the United Nations
Development Programme, Yangon, Mr Patrice Coeur-Gizot,
heads of departments under the ministry, invited
guests and participants. Altogether 34 participants
from 13 ministries attended the two-week Training
Workshop. 

(5) National Workshop on Radiation Protection in Radiotherapy, 
Radiodiagnostics and Nuclear Medicine Concluded

    The National Workshop on Radiation Protection in
Radiotherapy, Radiodiagnostics and Nuclear Medicine
concluded at the meeting hall of Medical Research
Department (Lower  Myanmar) in Yangon on 19 November. 
Altogether 90 trainees attended the five-day workshop
organized  by Ministry of Health, IAEA and  Ministry
of Science and Technology.
 
(6) Cooperative Industries Products Exhibition and Market Festival on 20-26 
November

    Cooperative Department of the Ministry of
Cooperatives will hold the Cooperative Industries
Products Exhibition and Market  Festival at Commercial
Centre from 20 to 26 November. Industrial products of
cooperative societies from States and Divisions will
be displayed in the exhibition. Show rooms of
cooperatives societies, companies and private
entrepreneurs will participate in the exhibition with
their products-- electronic accessories, jewellery
items, garments, personal and household goods. The
exhibition will also include entertainment programmes
such as stage show and song festival. The exhibition
will be opened from 9 am to 9 pm daily. Admission is
free.
 
(7) Nepalese Journalist Delegation Arrives

    A Nepalese Journalist delegation led by Chairman Mr.
Manju Ratna Sakya of Nepal Journalist Association
arrived Yangon by air on 19 November. 

(8) Hlawge Wildlife Park Open 22 November

    The Forest Department announced that Hlawga Wildlife
Park will be open for public recreation on 22 November
1999  (Fullmoon Day of Tazaungmon).

(9) Asia Wealth Bank Ltd to Introduce New Generation Credit Cards

    Officials of Asia Wealth Bank Ltd met with
entrepreneurs who are using Credit Card of AWB, and
discussed matters related to New Generation  Credit
Card  of AWB at the Hotel Nikko  Royal Lake (Yangon)
on 19 November.  A brief account of AWB was presented
with video tapes. Senior General Manager of AWB
explained matters related  to Credit Card and New
Generation Credit Card. Those  present raised
questions and observed the credit card system. Asia
Wealth Bank Ltd will introduce New Generation Credit
Card as of 1 December. Two kinds of credit card,
namely, Gold Card and Diamond Card, will be
introduced. Gold Card allows its holder to buy goods
and  services  worth up to K 200,000 on credit and
Diamond Card, up to K 500,000. With the use of Gold
Card and Diamond Card, credit transactions can be done
more easily. Asia Wealth Bank Ltd is providing banking
services with 33 branches and over 2,000 employees;
people have deposited about K 88  billion at AWB.
Entrepreneurs interested in using New Generation
Credit Card may contact Asia Wealth Bank Ltd. 

(10)    Fourth Leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour Continues

    The fourth leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour, organized
by Myanmar Golf Federation and Myanmar Professional
Golfer's Association, continued for the third day at
Eden Garden Ayethaya Golf Course in Taunggyi on 19
November.  After the third round, Myint Thaung was
leading with 219 strokes, three times champion Win
Naing Tun was runner-up with 229 along with Maung
Maung Tar and Aung Win who scored 229 each and Nay Win
Myint with 231 in the professional golfers' level. 
Min Naing was leading with 221 at the third round,
Nanda Kyaw with 233 and Than Aung with 234 in the
men's amateur level. The fourth round of the tour
continues on 20 November.

(11)    Electric Cables, Wires to be Exported to Singapore

    The factory of Myanmar Sigma Cable Co Ltd of
Industrial City Hlinethaya accepted orders from
foreign countries as a result of its quality
products--electric cables and wires which  are
produced with set standard, and sent export goods to
foreign countries, four times during September and
October. Myanmar Sigma Cable Co Ltd will send 
electric cables and wires  to Singapore.
