(1) Secretary-2 inspects bridge projects in
Bawlekyun
YANGON, 28 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected
Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung) Project and
Hlaing River Bridge (Myochaung) Project covered by
Bawlekyun Bridges Project and the farms of No 2
Bawathit Agricultural Production Camp of the
Ministry of Home Affairs today.
The Secretary-2 and party went to the site of
Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung) Project in
Thayetchaung Village, Taikkyi Township, at 7 am by
boat.
They were welcomed there by Brig-Gen Saw Hla Min
of Phugyi Station and officials.
The Secretary-2 and party inspected the
construction work of the bridge on the bank of
Htantabin Township and piles in the middle of the
river.
In the briefing hall, Superintending Engineer of
the project reported on progress of work in
building the bridge on the banks of Yaybawthoung
Village of Htantabin Township and Minhlawa Village
of Taikkyi Township, construction of piles of the
bridge and arrangements to be made.
Director-General of Forest Department reported on
arrangements for planting trees along new roads
and bridges to be built, Chairman of Yangon North
District Peace and Development, Council on
requirements for development of Hmawby, Taikkyi
and Htantabin and other adjoining areas, local
people on conditions of regional development.
Deputy Minister also gave a supplementary report
on development works.
Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than said the
Government is spending huge sums of money on
development work of Aikkalaung and Bawlekyun
regions and spoke of the need for local people to
serve the interests of the State.
Minister explained matters related to efforts for
development of town, village and rural areas.
Deputy Minister reported on the waterway of the
river and on all-round assistance for regional
development tasks.
Managing Director of Myanma Electric Power
Enterprise reported on the electricity pumping
projects being implemented in Bawlekyun and
Aingkalaungkyun.
In replying to their reports, the Secretary-2 said
the purpose of his tour was to fulfil requirements
for regional development works and bridge
projects.
In striving for development of the State, efforts
for development of rural areas play an important
role; Head of State Senior General Than Shwe
always takes interest in regional development work
and is giving guidance on the work.
The Government is implementing projects for the
development of the entire nation; While taking
charge of the nation, the Government is making
strenuous efforts for development of the nation
day and night; these efforts are made out of sheer
goodwill to achieve favourable conditions for the
country.
It is necessary for all to take interest in and
carry out assigned duties with the aim of building
a peaceful, modern and developed nation; efforts
are to be made to complete Bawle River Bridge
(Yaybawthoung) Project earlier than scheduled, if
the project is completed one day ahead of the
target date, local people will be able to enjoy
benefits early.
In conclusion, the Secretary-2 urged all to see to
worksite safety and to build the bridge which
meets the set standards.
Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung), 1,940 feet
long, is a reinforced concrete bridge linking
Yaybawthoung Village of Htantabin Township and
Minhlawa Village of Taikkyi Township.
The bridge has a 24-foot wide motorway and two
five foot-wide pedestrian lanes.
The bridge can bear 60-ton loads; the clearance of
the river under the bridge is 33 feet and 9 inches
high.
The Secretary-2 and party proceeded to No 2
Bawathit Agricultural Production Camp of the
Ministry of Home Affairs in Taikkyi Township by
boat.
They were welcomed there by Minister for Home
Affairs and officials.
In the briefing hall, Minister reported on the
purpose of opening Bawathit agricultural
production camps and cultivation of monsoon paddy
and summer paddy at the camps, Director-General of
the Prisons Department on conditions of No 2
Bawathit Agricultural Production Camp, harvesting
of monsoon paddy on 500-acre fields, cultivation
of summer paddy on 150 acres, agricultural and
livestock breeding work of Bawathit camps and
staff welfare.
Officials of Shwehse Company which is engaged in
agricultural work in Aikalaungkyun of Taikkyi
Township, reported on conditions of agricultural
undertakings, and Director of Yangon Division
Irrigation Department on digging of small canals
and building of sluice gates for irrigation.
The commander gave a supplementary report.
Then, the Secretary-2 gave instructions on
extending of agricultural works and boosting
production.
The Secretary-2 and party inspected the threshing
of monsoon paddy, farming machinery, cultivation
of summer paddy and fish ponds.
Afterwards, the Secretary-2 and party went to
Hlaing River Bridge (Myochaung) Project in Hmawby
Township.
In the briefing hall, Superintending Engineer
reported on the project.
Deputy Minister reported on the waterway of Hlaing
River and officials on agricultural matters of the
township.
The Secretary-2 gave instructions on their works
and inspected the project.
Hlaing River Bridge (Myochaung) is of the same
size as Bawle River Bridge (Yaybawthoung);Hlaing
River Bridge (Myochaung) links between Myochaung
Village of Hmawby Township and Gyogon Village of
Htantabin Township.
Later, the Secretary-2 inspected the construction
works of the bridge and left there at 3.00 pm.

(2) Provisions donated to monasteries in Dagon,
Sangyoung Townships
YANGON, 28 Nov -Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air)
families and well-wishers donated provisions to
Kwinkaung, Zabuyadana and Pariyatti Sarthintaiks
in Ahlon Township, Yangon West District at 8.30 am
today.
The ceremony was held at Thathanahitakari
Pariyatti Dhamma Beikhmandaw in Kwinkyaung
Sarthintaik.
The congregation received the Five Precepts from
Chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee
Presiding Sayadaw of Kwinkaung Pariyatti
Sarthintaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannasiri.
Chief of Staff (Air) Brig-Gen Myint Swe, Vice
Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo and General
Staff Officer Grade 1 (Navy) Commander Tin Oo
presented provisions donated by Tatmadaw (Army,
Navy and Air) families to the Presiding Sayadaw.
Next, Yangon City Development Committee, Yangon
Division Peace and Development Council, U Than Win
Daw Than Than Htay and well-wishers presented K
341,000 to Ministers Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe and Maj-Gen
Sein Htwa, Chief of Staff (Air) Brig-Gen Myint Swe
and Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo.
Director of People' s Militia and Frontier Forces
and Director-General of Religious Affairs
Department supplicated on purpose and the donation
and religious matters.
Dhamma Kahtika Shwedaung Sayadaw of Kwinkaung
Pariyatti Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Yajindaka
delivered a sermon.

(3) Minister inspects construction of
Multi-purpose Engine Production Plant Project
YANGON, 28 Nov - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen
Saw Lwin, accompanied by officials, arrived at
Multipurpose Engine Production Plant Project in
Indagaw, Bago Division, this morning.
Deputy Director of Myanma Industrial Construction
Services reported to the minister on progress in
construction of the factory and Managing Director
of Myanma Industrial Construction Services and
Director of the Directorate of Myanma Industrial
Planning gave supplementary reports.
Then, the minister inspected construction of Disc
Wheel Plant, Radiator Plant and Hyote Metal
Bearing Plant and the plot for extension of the
plants.
Afterwards, the minister gave instructions on
timely completion of the plants, construction of
the earth road encircling the plant, planting
trees and water and power supply.

(4) Minister for Culture inspects renovation
of pagodas in Bagan NyaungU
YANGON, 28 Nov - Minister for Culture U Win Sein,
Director General of the Department of Archaeology
and Director in charge of Bagan region and
officials inspected Pawdawmu Pagoda of Mr Scoble
on 27 November.
The name of Mr Scoble, deputy commissioner of
Pakokku under the British rule, was inscribed al
the pagoda.
The minister then gave instructions.
The minister and party inspected Pagoda Nos 1689,
1686, 1694, 1696 and 1697 and renovation work.
The minister inspected pagoda No 1695 and the
already renovated pagoda No 1467, wall paintings
in Lawka Okshaung Pagodas and other artistic works
and the nat statue at pagoda No 1469.
The minister inspected Buddha images and wall
paintings at pagodas No 1568, 1571, 1565 and parts
of Kya-hmauk Kyalan of Shwehsandaw Pagoda that
fell during the 1975 earthquake.
He also inspected Buddha images of pagoda No 289
and No 1612, Mee-ma-laung kyaung Pagoda built by
King Narapati Sithu and Pagoda No 1610 Phar Pagoda
and gave instructions.

(5) Minister inspects rice mill warehouses
in Einme Myaungmya
YANGON, 28 Nov - Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen
Pyi Sone, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural
Produce Trading and officials, arrived at No 630
100-ton Rice Mill in Einme Township, Ayeyawady
Division, yesterday.
Division Manager and factory manager explained
matters related to the mill.
The minister gave instructions to officials and
inspected the mill.
The minister then went to the briquette factory on
the compound of No 630 100-ton Rice Mill which is
running for staff welfare and inspected the
factory.
Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and party met members
of Union Solidarity and Development Association at
250mn Rice Reprocessing Mill in Myaungmya
Township.
Ayeyawady Division Manager and factory manager
reported to the minister on condition of the
factory.
The minister gave instructions to officials and
inspected the factory.
The minister and party went to Ywathit purchasing
centre in Einme Township and inspected warehouses.
Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone arrived back here in
the evening.

(6) Commander tours townships in Myaungmya
District
YANGON, 28 Nov - Chairman of Ayeyawady Division
Peace and Development Council Commander of
South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann
accompanied by officials, inspected cultivation of
ground-nut as double crops on the harvested paddy
field in Htanbinchaung Village, Kangyidaunt
Township, on 26 November.
Then, the commander inspected the paddy purchasing
centre of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading in
Kyonthwe Village of Myaungmya.
Township Manager of MAPT U Mya Htay and officials
reported.to the commander on matters relating to
the depot.
The commander gave necessary instructions.
The commander inspected Myaungmya suspension
bridge and construction site of Zinathiri
Myahtut-khaung Shwemudaw Pagoda in Myaungmya.
At Myaungmya District Union Solidarity and
Development Association Office, he met trainees of
Accountancy Course No 3 and gave some remarks on
reports presented by executives of District and
Township USDAs.
The commander then met members of Myaungmya
District, Myaungmya and Labutta Township
Agricultural Production Development Supervisory
Committees at the hall of Myaungmya Jute Mill.
He gave instructions on efforts to be made for
successfully implementing the tasks in short and
long terms, minimizing loss and wastage of monsoon
paddy to be kept under the shelter in time,
cultivation of cold season crops and summer paddy
up to targeted acreage and yield of crops,
preparation for cultivation next year and roads to
be repaired for ensuring smooth transportation.
Afterwards, the commander inspected the Jute Mill
and fulfilled the requirements.

(7) Commander inspects construction of Kanbawza
Sugar Mill
YANGON, 28 Nov - Chairman of Shan State Peace and
Development Council Commander of Eastern Command
Maj-Gen Maung Bo, accompanied by the deputy
commander and departmental officials, paid
obeisance to Shwekyin Nikayadipati Chairman Kangyi
Pariyatti Sarthintaik Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita
Abhidhaia Maha Ratthaguru Abhidhaja Agga Maha
Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Vimalasanvamsa at
Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Nyaungshwe
Township on 25 November morning.
The commander supplicated on religious affairs.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimalasanvamsa administered the
Five Precepts.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo inspected preparations
for holding of Shwekyin All Gana Meeting in
Aungmingala Dhammacakka Dhammayon, Soon Sar
Kyaungsaung, Sangha Clinic, Yadanamyintzu
Kyaungsaung, Yadana Khaymi Kyaungsaung, Wizayabana
Kyaungsaung and gave necessary instructions.
Then, Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo also inspected
renovation of Sankyaungdaw of Nyaung-shwe Myo and
residence of Nyaungshwe Sawbwa and gave
instructions to officials.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo inspected rice mills
and Shwenaykya natural fertilizers plant at l l am
and attended to their needs.
Next, the Commander inspected construction of
Kanbawza Sugar Mill of Shan State Peace and
Development Council in the afternoon.
The Commander met Shan State level departmental
officials and entrepreneurs at brief1ng hall of
Ayethaya industrial zone.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo then inspected the
streets in Ayethaya Myothit industrial zone, water
supply and power supply and work being carried out
in the industrial zone.

(8) Sergeant U Saw Phala Oh of No 4 Bridge Combat
Company of KNU and family members exchange
arms for peace
YANGON, 28 Nov - The government is striving for
national reconsolidation, upholding our Three Main
National Causes and is implementing the 12
political, economic and social objectives for
emergence of a peaceful, modern developed nation.
After realizing the genuine goodwill and
endeavours of the government, remnant armed
groups, abandoning destructive acts which do not
benefit the nation, are continuously exchanging
arms for peace individually or in groups.
A 22-member armed group led by sergeant U Saw
Phala Oh of No 4 Brigade Combat Company of KNU
armed group and 41 family members, together with
18 assorted guns, eight magazines, 277 rounds of
ammunition, four mines, 20 detonators, two packets
of plastic explosives, two grenades, two belts of
magazines and two walkie talkies, exchanged arms
for peace at the military column in Pedet Village
in Thayetchaung Township, Coastal Region Command
region.
A ceremony to exchange arms for peace of sergeant
U Saw Phala Oh of No 4 Brigade Combat Company of
KNU armed group was held at the football ground in
Pedet Village in Thayetchaung Township on 26
November.
Present on the occasion were Tactical Operations
Commander of Coastal Region Command Col Ohn Myint,
senior military officers, Chairman of Dawei and
Myeik Districts Peace and Development Councils,
departmental officials, members of the Union
Solidarity and Development Association,
townelders, peace negotiators, persons who served
for peace and local residents numbering over
6,000.
U Saw Phala Oh handed over the lists of arms and
ammunition to Col Ohn Myint.
Tactical Operations Commander Col Ohn Myint
extended greetings. He said it was an auspicious
day as sergeant U Saw Phala Oh of No 4 Brigade
Combat Company of KNU armed group and 41 family
members exchanged arms for peace. He warmly
welcomed the persons who exchanged arms for peace,
realizing that armed opposition way does not
benefit the nation and the people and it hampers
regional development.
National solidarity has become strong due to
genuine goodwill of the government Only when
national solidarity is strong and peace and
tranquillity reign in the country, can concerted
efforts be made for regional development and will
a peaceful, modern developed nation emerge.
The tactical operations commander invited remnant
armed groups to exchange arms for peace. He urged
the armed group members to participate in regional
development tasks and necessary assistance would
be provided to them.
Chairman of Dawei District and Peace and
Development Council Lt-Col Myo Nyunt presented
monetary assistance and gifts and Chairman of
Myeik District Peace and Development Council Lt-
Col Khin Maung Kywe provisions to sergeant U Saw
Phala Oh of No 4 Brigade Combat Company of KNU
armed group and 41 family members.
Next, sergeant U Saw Phala Oh spoke words of
thanks.
After the ceremony, Col Ohn Myint and officials
cordially met the persons who exchanged arms for
peace.

(9) 103 members resign from Kyauktaw Township NLD
YANGON, 28 Nov - One hundred and three members
resigned from National League for Democracy of
Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State.
One hundred and three members of Kyauktaw Township
NLD, Rakhine State, of their own volition,
resigned by sending letters of resignation to
Kyauktaw Township Multiparty Democracy General
Election Commission and the party concerned on 25
September 1999 as they no longer wished to
participate in party politics of NLD.
