High Court To Review Trade Law - (WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- The U-S Supreme =
Court has agreed to review a Massachusetts law restricting the state =
from doing business with companies that trade with Myanmar, formerly =
known as Burma. The 1996 "selective purchasing law" directs state =
officials to publish a list of such companies and to restrict state =
purchases from them. Myanmar's military dictatorship has been accused of =
widespread human rights abuses, including drug trafficking, torture and =
the use of slave labor. But an appeals court struck down the =
Massachusetts law, ruling that it interferes with the federal =
government's exclusive power to regulate foreign commerce.=20
