Parliament raises questions on seco

Subject: Parliament raises questions on second order Dutch IHC in Burma

Another unofficial translation by the BCN

The Hague, November 30th, 1999

Questions of member Koenders (Pvda) to the minister of Foreign Affairs
and to "underminister" of Economic Affairs

1.
What do you think of the signing of a contract by the Dutch company
IHC Holland, a daughtercompany of IHC Caland, with the Myanmar
ministry of Transport on the sale of a cutter suction dredger

(Press release of IHC Caland, http://www.ihccaland.nl, BCN)

2.
Do you agree with us that the delivering of the cutter suction dredger,
in spite of the on first face value peacefull aim with which it is
bought, the position of the military junta in Myanmar is further
strengthened and therefor deplorable?

3.
How much is this deal in disregard with national or international
rules?

4.
Do you see reasons and possibilities for the Dutch government to
critisize IHC Calland on this decision and / or do you have
instruments with which you cvan influence this decision?

5.
Are you prepared at short notice, if possible with other equally
minded nations, to declare a ban on trade and investment with Myanmar?
