If the NFTC/USA Engage Wins, they'll Go After The Federal Sanctions
Against Burma
Rangoon Post Note 30 November, 1999
Washington, D.C. - The NFTC hired Anne Wexler and the Wexler group and
created its legal front USAEngage. This growing coalition of more than
600 multi-national companies is fighting the Massachussettes Bumra
Purchasing law which is now at the supreme court.
USAEngage and the Wexler group worked with think tanks, lobbyists, and
politicians directly to go after uni-lateral sanctions laws at local,
state and federal levels. Their lobbying help modify a few sanction
laws against dictators and enact sanctions against countries that were
damaging their members' buisnesses.
If the NFTC/USAEngage coalition completely wins the Massachusettes
case, other state and local laws will be in danger and eventually so
will the federal law.
