(2) Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries meets
entrepreneurs for progress in meat sector

YANGON, 30 Nov-The Ministry of Livestock and
Fisheries held a meeting this afternoon at
Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise
to coordinate for progress in meat sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary-2 of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo said a
meeting was held with entrepreneurs in October for
progress of the meat sector. Open discussions are
invited at this second meeting for development of
the meat sector; while the entrepreneurs with
technology and capital should advance through the
modern path, manageable-scale businessmen should
also continue to take part in the farming
enterprise; there should be no manipulating of the
market by the persons with more capital.

The meat sector of the nation which is being
mainly operated by the private entrepreneurs has
good potential for development; however, when
compared with that of the neighboring countries,
Myanmar's meat sector is still in a lesser
condition.

Thus, the meeting was held to make coordination
between  the   entrepreneurs   and  the  ministry;
officials have no aims for personal benefit other
than for developing the sector and to Development
meat at reasonable prices for the public.
Entrepreneurs should work with sincerity and
goodwill for their own benefit and public
interest. The government will render required
assistance to the entrepreneurs to do so.

Secretary of Myanmar Federation of Breeding
Entrepreneurs Dr Zaw Win Myat explained the
founding of the federation and plans to enhance
the meat sector. Entrepreneurs then presented
experiences, difficulties and requirements in
conducting poultry farming. Concerning the
presentations, Minister for Livestock and
Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein explained
plans to disburse loans to entrepreneurs and
distribute quality strains, feedstuff and
medicines, Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone
providing of feedstuff and Joint Secretary of
Yangon City Development Committee U Kyi Win
allotment of shops and land for farming.

(3) Meeting on integrated rural development
for Asia and the Pacific opened

YANGON, 30 Nov- A ceremony to open the 20th
Regular Meeting of the Executive Committee (EC-20)
of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for
Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) was held at the
meeting hall of Myanmar Timber Trade Centre (MTTC)
on Shwetaunggyar Road in Bahan Township this
morning. Present on the occasion were Minister
for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin,
delegates of CIRDAP member nations Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar,
Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri
Lanka, Vietnam and Fiji.

First, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation
Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin delivered an opening address.

He said alleviation of rural poverty in Asia and
the Pacific region has been the prime concern of
CIRDAP. Ever since its establishment, CIRDAP has,
with the tireless efforts and support of member
countries and assistance from donor countries and
agencies, made significant progress towards the
cause of rural development and poverty alleviation
in this region. CIRDAP has not only served as
useful forum for exchange of ideas and experiences
in rural development through research, training
and information dissemination but has also helped
in promoting better understanding and cooperation
among member nations. As an active member country
of CIRDAP, Myanmar is providing its strong support
as actively participating in the center's
development activities.

Thus concerted efforts are being made for rural
development and poverty eradication through
national programmes. In Myanmar about 75% of the
total populace are residing in rural areas and
majority of the rural populace is dependent on
agriculture and other agricultural related
activities for their living. Rural development
therefore is crucial in a sense that agricultural
sector, which is the principal production sector
of rural area, contributes relatively to a larger
portion of national economic development.

In conclusion, the minister said he would like to
conclude by reiterating the full support and
cooperation of the Government of the Union of
Myanmar to the activities of CIRDAP and wished the
meeting success and hoped that the distinguished
delegates from abroad will have a pleasant stay in
Myanmar. With those words, the minister declared
the 20th Regular Meeting of the Executive
Committee of CIRDAP open. Then, Chairman of the
19th Regular Meeting of the Executive Committee of
CIRDAP Mr Carlito T Anonuevo gave a speech.

Afterwards, Director General Dr AVS Reddy of
CIRDAP made a speech and presented a souvenir to
Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt- Tin. Next the
director-general presented a souvenir to Assistant
Secretary of Agrarian Reform of the Philippines
Chairman of the 19th Regular meeting of the
Executive Committee of CIRDAP Mr Carlito T
Anonuevo. Afterwards, the general round of
discussions then followed and delegates took part
in the discussions.
