        Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to Finland

YANGON, 6 Dec - Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Martti Ahtisaari, President of the Republic of Finland, on the occasion of the Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Finland which falls on 6 December 1999.

(2)   Special Refresher Course No 38 for Basic Education 
        Teachers concluded
	
YANGON, 5 Dec - Special Refresher Course No 38 for Basic Education Teachers concluded at the Central Institute of Civil Service (Phaunggyi) in Hlegu Township this morning with an address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.


The Secretary-l then presented model awards to junior assistant teacher of Basic Education High School, Kawbain Township and Headmistress of Yayngan Village Basic Education Primary School in Yedashe Township and other prizes and certificates to the trainees.


The teacher trainees presented K 50,000 for renovation of CICS Koenawin Pagoda and Dhammayon, National Convention, fund of Union Solidarity and Development Association, restoration of ancient pagoda in Bagan and BEPS in CICS to the Secretary-1.


The Secretary-l then met the trainees.

(3)   Secretary 1 attends opening of Myatlay Hostel,
       library of Central Institute of Civil Service

		
YANGON, 5 Dec - A ceremony to open Myatlay Hostel and the library of the Central Institute of Civil Service (Phaunggyi) was held in front of the respective buildings this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. 


Also present on the occasion were ministers, the Chief Justice, the Chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board, the Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee and the Mayor of Yangon, deputy ministers, the director-general and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads, the rector, professors, instructors and trainees of CICS (Phaunggyi), departmental officials and guests.


The opening of Myatlay Hostel was held in front of that building at 9.45 am.
 

Master of ceremonies of Administration Section of CICS (Phaunggyi) explained matters related to the hostel.


The Secretary-l formally unveiled the stone plaque of the hostel.


Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board formally opened the hostel.


Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the hostel.


Myatlay Hostel, 200 feet long and 174 feet wide, is an I-shaped reinforced concrete two-storey building and can accommodate 200 trainees.


There are five rooms which can accommodate 20 trainees, on each floor. Master of ceremonies Daw Tin Tin Htay of Administration Section of CICS (Phaunggyi) explained matters related to the library.


The Secretary-l formally unveiled the plaque of the library.


Then, the Secretary-l and party inspected the library.


The library, 96 feet long and 51 feet wide, is a reinforced concrete two-storey building constructed at a cost of K 27.711 million; there are over 50,000 English and Myanmar books on various subjects for the trainees.

(4)   Provisions donated to Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik

YANGON, 5 Dec - Tatmadaw families (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated rice to Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Pabedan Township at the Sard7intaik at 11 am today in conjunction with cash presenting ceremony for the construction of nine-storey building Soonsarkyaungsaung at the Sarthintaik.


Present on the occasion were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, senior Tatmadaw officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, officials, well-wishers and members of Board of Trustees.
 

Vice-Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Ratthaguru Bhaddanta Surirabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts.


Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Minister for Livestock and Fisheries presented offertories to Vice-Chairman Sayadaw and Presiding Sayadaw of Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik.


Well-wishers and departmental officials presented donations to Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials for the construction of nine-storey building Soonsar Kyaung-saung.


Secretary,-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave necessary instructions.
 

Director-General of Religious Affairs Department supplicated on religious affairs.


Presiding Sayadaw of Maha Theindawgyi Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

(5)   The 12th Governing Council Meeting of the Centre of 
       Integrated Rural Development for Asia and Pacific 
       (CIRDAP) concluded



YANGON, 5 Dec -The 12th Governing Council Meeting of the Centre of Integrated Rural Development for Asia and Pacific (CIRDAP) concluded at the Bagan Hotel in Bagan-NyaungU, Mandalay Division, yesterday.


Present on the occasion were Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Deputy Minister, officials, representatives of CIRDAP member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam and guests.


Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin acted as the chairman of the meeting.



Director-General of CIRDAP Dr AVS Reddy and participants took part in the discussions on monetary management on projects, reviews on monetary affairs for 1999, financial targets for the year 2000, management and civil affairs of CIRDAP and research and training.


Director-General of Agricultural Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, was elected as new Director-General of CIRDAP.


The 13th Governing Council Meeting of the Centre of Integrated Rural Development for Asia and Pacific (CIRDAP) will be held in Nepal.


The representatives then exchanged gifts. The meeting ended with the closing speech by Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin.


Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and the participants then posed for photographs.


The representatives led by Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council, visited Popa Mount Resort in Kyaukpadaung Township.


They observed greening of Popa and its environs and rural development. They went to Township Rural Health Care Unit where they were welcomed by Director-General of Health Department and officials.


The representatives visited Sepauk vineyard.


In the evening, Director-General of CIRDAP Dr AVS Reddy hosted dinner in honour of the participants at the guest house of the ministry.


The representatives arrived back here this evening.

(6)   Commander meets departmental officials and 
        farmers in Htantabin


YANGON, 5 Dec - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon ,Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than inspected development and agricultural works in Htantabin Township this afternoon.

Commander f Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than met departmental officials, farmers of Tetthit, Htoochaung, Ohgwa and Pandaing Village-tracts at Agricultural Education Camp. 


Speaking on the occasion, he said, it was time for harvesting of monsoon paddy as well as for cultivation of summer paddy.


He spoke of the need to plough summer paddy fields with small tractors and cattle where large tractors cannot be used.


Chairman of Htantabin Township Peace and Development Council reported to the commander on cultivation of summer paddy, beans and pulses and oil crops.


Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than attended to their needs.


The commander inspected land preparations for the cultivation of summer paddy and progress of work.
 

A total of 225,000 acres of land are to be put under summer paddy, 120,000 acres under oil crops and 350,000 acres under pulses and beans in Yangon Division.


Htantabin Township has targeted to put 50,000 acres under summer paddy, 6,800 acres under oil crops and 12,500 acres under pulses and beans and it has already put 18,114 acres under summer paddy, 1,019 acres under oil crops and 3,738 acres under beans and pulses.

(7)   Bangladesh study delegation arrives


YANGON, 5 Dec - A 45 member study delegation led by Maj-Gen A.M Mansur Ahmed of Defence Services Command & Staff College, Bangladesh, arrived here by air at 1 pm today.


The delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Commandant of Staff College Brig-Gen Soe Tint, Deputy Director of Directorate of Military Training and Tatmadaw officers, Military Attache of Bangladesh Brig.

(8)   18 members resign from Bago Township NLD


YANGON, 5 Dec - Eighteen members resigned from National League for Democracy of Bago Township, Bago Division.


Eighteen members of Bago Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Bago Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 27 September 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(9)   12 members resign from Machambaw Township NLD


YANGON, 5 Dec - Twelve members resigned from National League for Democracy of Machambaw Township, Kachin State.


Twelve members of Machambaw Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Machambaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 28 September 1999 asSthey no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
