Text of report by Burmese opposition radio on 16th December

Despite the harassment on a large scale from the military intelligence, the
National League for Democracy [NLD] is reported to be still holding its
activities systematically. The NLD Headquarters in Rangoon Division has its
weekly schedule. Meetings between members of the Committee Representing
People's Parliament, CRPP, and NLD members are held from 1000-1200 [local
time] on Mondays and visitors are received from 1500 to 1700 in the
afternoon. Medicines and food are distributed to the poor, including the
children, from 1000 on Tuesdays. The military intelligence keeps full
records of the recipients and about 500 people receive their medicines and
food weekly. The SPDC [State Peace and Development Council] closely
followed the movements of the NLD leaders - U Aung Shwe, U Tin Oo, and Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi.Reading circles are held on Wednesdays from 1300 and a
topic for discussion is selected for discussion for each session. There is
also a free English language lesson for members from 0900-1000 on Thursdays
and discussions on youth and women are held every other Thursday afternoon.
The statements, leaflets, and pins issued by the NLD are sold at the
headquarters and are also distributed to NLD branch offices throughout the
country. The military intelligence occasionally intrudes and carries out
arrests. The military intelligence agents are deployed in full force at the
front and around the NLD Headquarters on Shwegondine Road. Movements in and
out of the headquarters are recorded on video camera. The headquarters is
sometimes sealed off and national registration cards are scrutinized. It is
learned that about 300 people attend the weekly talks held by the NLD
headquarters.
