Homong To Become A Tourist Attraction?

A Thai businessman said the road coming to Homong, Khun Sa's capital=20
(1985-1995), from Langkher is being upgraded in order to open it up as a =

tourist center.

Homong in Mawkmai Township, Loilem District, southern Shan State, is=20
opposite Maehongson Province of Thailand.

----------

Militia Force For Homong

On 9 December, Maj. Gen Maung Bo, Commander of the Eastern Command, =
arrived in Homong from his headquarters in Taunggyi to deliver more than =
40=20
assorted weapons for ex-MTA Col. Mahaja, who had reportedly agreed to =
set=20
up a 120-strong militia unit to combat the Shan resistance.

The Shan State Army, led by Yawdserk, is active in the area.

John, S.H.A.N.'s source, believes it is part of the junta's plan "to fry =

fish with fish oil" i.e. using Shans against Shans.

----------

A New Refinery To Be Set Up By the Junta

On 12 December, Col. Khin Maung Oo, Commander of the Military Operations =

Command in Monghsat, summoned a meeting where Wei Xuelong, the notorious =

Wei Xuegang's elder brother, and Li Hsien, a known drug operator, =
attended.

It was agreed at the meeting to set up a new heroin-amphetamine factory =
to=20
be operated by Wei Xuelong. The necessary "gear" would be furnished by =
Li=20
Hsien, said Maihoong, S.H.A.N.'s reporter.

The location of the said factory would be somewhere along the Namhsim=20
River, north of Mongton Township, Monghsat District, according to =
Maihoong.

Maihoong's sources also claimed to have seen some equipment coming from=20
Monghsat to Mongton on 15 December escorted by soldiers. "They are for =
Li=20
Hsien", said one soldier to the source.

Maihoong added Khin Maung Oo had just returned from Taunggyi on 10=20
December, after a meeting with "his superiors".
