MERRY XMAS MONSIEUR DESMAREST!

French mid-day news report the Total Fina oil spill has hit Belle Island
("Beautiful Island"), a small vacation island off Quimper, an hour's
ferry off the north west coast, December 25, Christmas Day 1999. Few
know this island. Dawn Star biked it a few years ago, braving late
winter winds and rain. Its a beautiful island, up and down hills, cows
and goats, and once the retreat of dancer Sarah Bernhardt (spelling?).

Last nights storm sea winds, over a hundred miles an hour, has sent the
French oil company's disaster back to the French coast. Its now
official, and now is the beginning of Total Fina's french national
disaster of 1999.

Merry Xmas Mr. Desmarest. You should have taken more interest. You
should have not used an old ship, with a single and not a double hull.

Payback time as Dominique Voyet, French environment minister, broke off
her holiday far from France and flew home to meet the people in Nantes
and join in their outrage against the largest industrial company in
France, and now poised to be the worlds fourth largest oil company. The
pride of the new French enconomy, as the FRench stock market hits its
highest record yesterday ever, around 5700 points! The pride of France
is not in the marketplace! The pride of France is there standing on the
sea coast. And it is angry. The heart and soul of the French is there on
the dock, in the ships and on the seafront fighting this oil disaster as
it hits home on this holy day of peace, and thankfulness.

Perhaps now the French will be more inclined to support the TOTAL
BOYCOTT as annonced this week by French right wing politician Philippe
de Villiers, and the anti-TOTAL FINA movement here stretching wide
across the political spectrum to include the important Green party
faction.

And this is just the beginning of support for the Free Burma TOTAL
BOYCOTT since its first launch in 1996.

This day will be remembered for a long time when the TOTAL FINA oil hit
Belle Island on Christmas Day.
