(1)   MEC Chairman inspects School Family Day booths

YANGON, 29 Dec - Chairman of Myanmar Education
Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected
booths of 1999-2000 School Family Day this
afternoon.

Accompanied by officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, the Secretary-l
arrived at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Yangon Mayor,
deputy ministers, directors-general and chairmen
of departments and organizations under the
Ministry of Education, rectors, officials, school
heads and teachers and their pupils Students led
by Maung Ye Win Myint Wai of No 5 Basic Education
Primary School of Dagon Township, who is the
silver medal winner in the harp competition
entertained the Secretary-l and party with the
song ''Myamagiri''.


Together with officials, the Secretary-1 inspected
shops at Education Book Fair which was opened on
the ground floor of Diamond Jubilee Hall, domestic
science booths, Myanmar cultural handicraft booths
and education promotion-booths on the first floor,
the postcard drawing and painting booth, model
multi-media teaching centres and FISCA booths on
the second floor.

Secretary-1 and party inspected Information
Society Landscape Booth, Institute of Education
Booth, Open University Learning Centre, data-based
booth, Institute of Economics Booth and teaching
and language skill booth.

They left in the evening.

(2)   Minister for Rail Transportation inspects roads,
      bridges

YANGON, 29 Dec - Minister for Rail Transportation
U Pan Aung and officials inspected repair of
Aunglan (Kyenichaung) Bridge on 25 December.

On 26 December, the minister inspected roads and
bridges on Budalin-YeU section and gave
instructions.


The minister inspected construction of Mu River
Bridge on YeU-KhinU section on 27 December.

(3)   Demonstration of modern laboratory equipment


YANGON, 29 Dec - Demonstration of modern
laboratory equipment organized by Europ Continents
Co Ltd and Biomeriux Co was.held at Sedona Hotel
on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.

Present were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein,
Director-General of Health Department, doctors,
heads of departments from Institutes of Medicine,
lecturers, officials of the Ministry of Health and
guests.

General Manager of Europ Continents Co Ltd Dr San
San Yi made a speech.

The minister and guests observed automatic
biochemical analyser, automatic haematology
analyser, automatic immunology analyser,
coagulation analyser and electrolyte analyser.

Five papers on the equipment were submitted and
officials replied to queries of those present.

(4)   Commander inspects construction of new buildings
      for BEHSs in Mandalay


YANGON, 29 Dec - Chairman of Mandalay Division
Peace and Development Council Commander of Central
Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint and officials inspected
construction of new two-storey building for No 14
Basic Education High School in Chanayethazan
Township on 27 December.

Officials reported on progress of work.  The
commander inspected sports hall and gave
instructions.

The commander inspected extension of two-storey
Nawadei building of No 4 BEHS in Aungmyethazan
Township.

Ninety percent of construction of a new two-storey
building for No 14 BEHS have been completed and 75
per cent in extension of two-storey Nawadei
building of No 4 BEHS.

The commander inspected construction of Nadaungkya
Creek Bridge on Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Road.
Division Superintending Engineer U Sai Thein Maung
reported on laying of 21 piers.  The commander
then inspected the site.

(5)   Means sought to extend agriculture in Maubin


YANGON, 29 Dec - Chairman of Ayeyawady Division
Peace and Development Council Commander of
South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann met
officials of Maubin District Agriculture
Supervisory Committee and local farmers yesterday
in Maubin Township.

The commander visited the wetland farm of Yangon
City Development Committee in Nyaungdonkyun;
Maubin Township, Maubin District in the afternoon.

He met with members of Maubin District and
Township Agriculture Supervisory Committees,
departmental personnel and national entrepreneurs
who are taking part in wetland farming.

Discussions were centred on harvesting of monsoon
paddy, cultivation of summer paddy and cold season
crops and irrigation.  He also looked into their
requirements.

During inspection of Panhlaing Sluice Gate, the
commander held meeting with Maubin District and
Nyaungdon Agriculture Supervisory Committees,
departmental personnel and local authorities of
Village Peace and Development Councils and farmers
of Hsarmalauk, Thazinyekyaw, Mezali, Zeebyukyun
and Maletto village-tracts in the briefing hall of
the project.

The commander urged them to strive to cultivate
summer paddy and cold season crops as targeted,
for the thriving of crops and extension of
cultivated areas.

He also attended to the needs of officials and
farmers.

(6)   Maykha starts route in Rakhine State


YANGON, 29 Dec - A ceremony to ply the route of
Maykha ship of Malikha Transport Co Ltd.  was held
in Sittway on 28 December.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Rakhine
State Peace and Development Council Commander of
Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe and wife Daw
Khin Hinn Wai, Commander of Danyawady Naval Region
Command Headquarters Commodore, staff officers of
the Command, Rakhine State, District and Township
level departmental officials, officials of Malikha
Transport Co Ltd and guest.

Next, member of the Board of Directors of Malikha
Transport Co Ltd U Soe Than presented K 180,000
for the fund of Rakhine State Maternal and Child
Welfare Association to Daw Khin Hnin Wai.

Member of the Board of Directors of Malikha
Transport Co Ltd U Myo Zaw Aung presented K
180,000 for the fund of Rakhine State development
of education to the commander.

The commander and wife formally opened the
ceremony and inspected the ship.

The ship, 115 feet long and 12 feet wide, is
equipped with 1,550 HP engine and other modern
equipment It can run at a speed of 25 to 35
nautical miles, carrying 140 passengers.

(7)   Day care centres maternity home opened


Y ANGON, 29 Dec - A day care centre was opened in
Thongwa Township this morning and a maternity home
and a day care centre in Sapyadebauk village,
Kayan Township.

Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare
Association Prof.  Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Patron of
Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare
Association Supervisory Committee, Central
Executive Committee member of MMCWA , Chairman of
Division MCWASC Head of Division Office of Health
Department , School Health officer of Yangon
Division and others attended the ceremonies.

Prof.  Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Daw Marlar Tint
formally opened the day care centre in Thongwa
Township.  Donations were also presented to the
centre.

Chairman of Yangon South District Peace and
Development Council unveiled the signboard.

At the ceremony in Sapyadebauk village Prof.  Daw
Kyu Kyu Swe, and Chairman of Township Peace and
Development Council gave speeches.

Prof.  Daw Kyu Kyu Swe presented gifts for the
maternity home to Daw Marlar Tint.  Officials
accepted K 618,300 presented by well-wishers for
the maternity home.

At the day care centre, the officials presented
toys to the children.

In the afternoon, they held a meeting with members
of Township Maternal and Child Welfare
Association.

(8)   Stimulant tablets seized in Lashio


YANGON, 29 Dec - A combined team comprising
members of regional intelligence unit and Myanmar
Police Force, acting on information, searched the
house of U Le Phar Mi, son of U Le Khan Kau, No
212, Theinni Street, Region 4, Ward 12 Lashio,
Shan State (North), on 15 December.

The authorities arrested Le Win Kyone (a) Win
Hlaing, 21, son of U Le Phar Mi, Ah Phan, 21, son
of U Lu Lauk Htwar, No 9 Ward, Laukkai Township,
Lu Chin Han, 42, son of U Lu Khaink Chun, Ward 2,
Mya Khwarnyo Street, Lashio Township, Law Haik
Han, 38, son of U Law Lauk Chi, Panhaw Village,
Kunlong Township and Chit Lwin (a) Ah Yon, 23, son
of U Wan Fu Chi, Ward 3, Kutkai Township together
with 601,000 stimulant tablets bearing "WY" in six
bags which were hidden in the bed in the house and
a van (7 Ka/ 4991).

Action is being taken against the five under the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(9)   51 members resign from Shwegu Township NLD


YANGON, 29 Dec - Fifty-one members resigned from
the National League for Democracy of Shwegu
Township, Kachin State.

Fifty-one members of Shwegu Township NLD, Kachin
State,-of their own volition, resigned by sending
letters of resignation to Shwegu Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission
Office and the party concerned on 15 September
1999 as they no longer wished to participate in
party politics of NLD.
