Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony of Course in
Diplomatic Skills for Senior Officials

"The course ... has been instituted to impart knowledge of
diplomacy and international relations ...."

YANGON, 1 Sept- The opening ceremony of the Course in Diplomatic
Skills for Senior Officials 1/2000 conducted by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs was held at Winzinminyaza Hall of Shin Ditha Pamaukkha
Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning, attended by
Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt.

The ceremony was also attended by ministers, the Chief Justice, the
Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, deputy
ministers, senior Tatmadaw Officers, officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, Myanmar ambassadors, directors-general
of the ministry, course instructors and trainees.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said. Today is a landmark day in the
annals of our diplomatic history as this is the very first time ever that a
course in diplomatic skills for senior government officials is being
conducted. The course which has been instituted to impart knowledge of
diplomacy and international relations to responsible officials from various
ministries has attracted a large number of attendees in spite of their
heavy responsibilities and schedules. This is indeed an indication of the
high esteem and respect in which the course is regarded as well as a sign
that the course will be of great benefit to the nation. On behalf of the
Government, I would like to express my appreciation to the Minister for
Foreign Affairs, Foreign Ministry officials, course instructors and retired
ambassadors for making the course possible.

In concluding, I would like to urge all of you to ensure that the objectives
of the course are fully met and to become exemplary civil servants
capable of discharging your responsibilities in the interest of the country
and people. Altogether 36 trainee officers of the ministries are
attending
the 8-week course.
