Activists marked International Human Rights Day on Indo-Burma border

The Burmese pro-democracy activists based in Mizoram State of India
celebrated the International Human Rights Day today at the capital
Aizawl. The celebration, joined by eminent citizens and human rights
campaigners of the Northeastern state of India, was held at the Aizawl
Club. Among others, former Chief Minister of Mizoram State Mr. T. Sailo,
former minister Pu C. Vulluaia, high court lawyer Dr. C.V.L Ava, North
East Students Organization?s vice-president Mr. Muan Tuia participated
in the function, joining together with the Burmese democracy activists.

Speaking at the function as Chief Guest, former Chief Minister of the
state Mr. T. Sailo expressed his full sympathy with the Burmese
activists who have been in exile for more than ten years. Mr. T. Sailo
who lived in Burma for some years during the Second World War extended
his support and solidarity to the Burmese activists.

In the daylong program, the Burma pro-democracy groups highlighted the
human rights violations committed by the military junta in Burma. At the
end of the function, the participants adopted a resolution on Burma,
calling for the Burmese junta to free Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi
and all the political prisoners in the country and to enter into a
dialogue with the Committee Representing for People?s Parliament (CRPP)
and to honor the people?s verdict of 1990 election in which Aung San Suu
Kyi-led National League for Democracy (NLD) got a landslide victory. The
resolution also urged the people of Mizoram to put pressure on the
Burmese military regime to stop all the human rights violations in the
country. More than a hundred Burmese and Mizo human rights activists
participated in the function.
