Statement

A 3-day long Karenni National Convention was successfully held from 19 Feb
to 21 Feb 2001.

One hundred and forty nine representatives from various townships of
Karenni representing different walks of live, the Karenni Army (KA) and
Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) attended the convention.

The existing constitution of Karenni State and rules and regulation of the
Karenni Government were discussed, amended and adopted. The convention
elected forty Members of Parliament of the state.

A new Karenni government will be founded in the coming March 2001.

A five-day long 9th congress of the Karenni National Progressive Party
(KNPP) was successfully held from 12 Feb to 16 Feb 2001.

The congress established the following five work committees which are as
follows: 

1. Committee for  Party Central Organization
2. Committee for Works Inspection and Displine Maintainance
3. Committee for News and Information
4. Committee for Allies and Foreign Affairs
5. Committee for Finance

The 9th congress of the party elected a 14-member Central Committee and a
3-member of Alternate Central Committee. The newly elected members are as
follows:
