        Indian PM to open Asia Society?s Conference in Bangalore

New Delhi, March 3, 2001

Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister of India would deliver the
inaugural address at the Asia Society's 12th Annual Corporate Conference
in Asia, entitled "Asia's Technology Future: Transforming Business,"
according to a press release of the Confederation of Indian Industry
(CII) in New Delhi today. The conference, which will be held between
March 11-13, 2001, at the Taj West End Hotel, Bangalore, aims to explore
technology's impact on business and society in Asia.

In addition to Prime Minister Vajpayee, high-level Indian government and
business representatives, and prominent executives from Asia's
information technology and business sectors, will attend the conference.
The keynote address would be delivered by Cheow Tong Yeo, Minister for
Communications and Information Technology, Singapore. Other speakers
include Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andra Pradesh, India;
Liz Kniss, Mayor of Palo Alto, California, U.S.; Yong Ying-I, CEO,
Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), Singapore; Othman Yeop Abdullah,
Executive Chairman, Multimedia Development Corporation, Malaysia and
James B. Hunt, Jr., former Governor, North Carolina, U.S.

According to Marshall M. Bouton, Executive Vice President of the Asia
Society, "For over forty years, the Asia Society has been committed to
educating Americans about India and facilitating dialogue between
Indians and Americans?. We are delighted to be convening another
Conference in India as Asia is playing a critical role in the digital
revolution and Bangalore is at the vanguard of this technology
revolution."

The US-based Asia Society is organising its Annual Corporate Conference
in association with Dow Jones & Company, Inc. and the Confederation of
Indian Industry (CII) and more than 700 senior executives and officials
from Asia and the global business community are expected to participate
at the conference.
