A SENIOR diplomat of the Burmese Embassy, A Wilson, was roughed up by
two autorickshaw drivers near the Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon.

The incident was reported on Saturday afternoon while Wilson was
returning to Delhi form the golf resort with another diplomat form the
Singapore High Commission in his Mercedes.

The police said the incident took place near Shani Mandir on National
Highway 8, when Wilson's car was hit by a autorickshaw, HR 55 8418,
which tried to over take the diplomat's car form the wrong side.

As Wilson got down form the car to see the damage, the TSR driver too
stopped at a distance.

"The autorickshaw driver first got into an argument with the diplomat
saying the accident took place due to his fault.

"He also roughed up the diplomat," said a police official at the Sadar
police station in Gurgaon.

Meanwhile, another autorickshaw, HR 26A 0447, who was passing form the
same side stopped on seeing the commotion.

"This autorickshaw owner turned out to be an associate of the
autorickshaw driver involved in the accident. Both of them then roughed
up the Burmese diplomat and his friend. None of the passers-by came to
the rescue of the helpless diplomats," a police official added.

After the incident both the autorickshaw drivers fled form the spot in
their vehicles.

But Wilson managed to note down the numbers of the vehicles.

The diplomat then went to the Khirki Daula police post where he narrated
the entire incident.

Wilson was then taken to the Sadar police station where a First
Information Report. 378/2001, was lodged.

The Gurgaon police have launched a massive hunt for the autorickshaw
drivers but have failed to trace them so far.

"We are verifying the records form the Gurgaon Transport Authority to
check whether the vehicles had been registered there or not. The numbers
have also been flashed to other transport offices in the state. But so
far the name and address of the owners of the vehicles is not known"
said a senior police official.

"This is a serious matter since a diplomat has been roughed up," said
the police official said.
