        "Freedom of information for good governance" to be held
                              in New Delhi

The Asian Center for Democratic Governance (ACDG), jointly established
by Washington-based National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and New
Delhi-based Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is organizing an
international workshop on "Freedom of Information for Good Governance"
in New Delhi next week, according to a press release of CII today.

The three-day workshop, which will start on Monday, will be addressed by
India's Minister for Law, Justice & Company Affairs Mr. Arun Jaitely at
Hotel Le Meridien in New Delhi.

The international workshop will cover the subjects related to freedom of
information and media's role in ensuring transparency, government's role
in providing transparency, economic information, the role of the
business community and the impact of new technologies on freedom of
information.

The ACDG was founded during the visit of US President Bill Clinton to
India in March last year and it holds regional workshops as well as
international conferences on leading themes related to the development
and strengthening of democratic governance in the Asian region.
