Description: Materials on Bones Will Crow anthology, including printed extracts and audio recordings of Zeyar Lynn reading his poems and of Zeyar Lynn, Khin Aung Aye and James Byrne in conversation with Charles Bernstein. ["Bones Will Crow: 15 Contemporary Burmese Poets, edited by ko ko thett and James Byrne and just out from North Illinois University Press, is a game-changing anthology and one of the best anthologies I have seen in years. Much credit goes to the translators, who have created works in English that are precisely and wittily connected to contemporary innovative poetics in English..."]

Description: Translated and introduced by Violet Cho. "Tee Noe was born as M. No Noe in a village called Thavorta, Karen State, Myanmar (Burma) in 1952. After completing year 10 at a state high school in 1974, he worked as a junior clerk at a local government office in Karen State, eastern Myanmar. Later he joined the rebellion as a soldier for the Karen National Liberation Army and as a schoolteacher in Burmese refugee camps along Thai-Burma border. With no formal knowledge of the mechanics of poetry, Tee Noe has become a leading voice of the Karen diaspora. From a young age, Tee Noe was drawn to poetry. He remembers singing a short hta (Karen oral poem) to thank his cousin who gave him a woollen hat as a present when he turned six: ?To school I run when the bell rings, with a woollen hat today I went?..."

Description: Fly On O Crane! [Poem, 1962]...??CHEWING THE WEST?: The Development of Modern Burmese Literature Under the Influence of Western Literature ["Burmese written literature began about a thousand years ago in the eleventh century. Like other Asian countries the influence of Buddhism was very great on Burmese literature. In fact Burmese literature, which grew on the basis of Buddhism, was semi-religious. Even in this age some elderly people are asking us: ?How could your stories be better than Jatakatales?” When novels and popular dramas appeared in printed book form, young people liked and read these new things with interest, giving the excuse that there were some lessons in accord with Buddhism. But the old people did not want to allow young people to read the new books which we called ?Bo-oks” saying that those things were ?mere idle talks” which raised ?ta-nha”, (Pali, which means ?Lust”). They thought it was immoral to read those new books...", 2002]...Writing and Politics ["What is politics? Dictionaries usually define it as ?study of government” or ?the activities of a government.” What, then, is ?government?” Again, the dictionary says, ?It?s a group of people who govern or rule a country or a state.” In Burmese, politics is referred to as, ?Naingngan ye” which means ?affairs of state.” So I want to define politics like this, ?Politics is nothing but the affairs of a state,” or, ?study of people under a government.”", no date].
