Description: "Arakan is today a hidden colony of Burma (Myanma). Our fatherland was invaded and occupied by Bama colonialist forces in the year 1784.The tragic loss of lives , properties and destruction of the peaceful and prosperous Rakhapura kingdom was beyond the words of expression. Since then our heroic Liberators and brave freedom fighters struggled and sacrificed their lives for the restoration of our dignity and sovereingty of the fatherland. We,the people of Rakhapura having thought to win our lost independence invited and co-operated the Britishers to repel the Bama invaders, unfortunately, due to betrayal of Britishers, instead of Bama Slavery we fell into the slavery of Britishers. When Britishers left in 1948 ,we and our fatherland were handed over to Bama again .However, the heroic Rakhaing people never ceased to struggle and fight back the invaders from 1784 to till today. It is the irony of fate that we could never achieved our mission of liberation due to enemies within ourselves, the colonialist rulers during their colonial rule successfully implemented the DIVIDE AND RULE policy among the national races of Arakan creating hostilities so that the Occupying forces can rule our country without trouble. Today, it is the need of hour and call of our fatherland Rakhapura to unite all Arakanese people disregarding race, religion and language thru a unied platform of Arakan Citizens based on Universal Human Rights Declaration to repel our enemies through non-violent means with our own peoples power. So, I sincerely invite and request all Arakanese people in and out of Arakan to join with us in the historical process of Arakan Peoples Unity Forume. Let us creat peoples power in our land! All of the world citizens are hereby earnestly requested to render the best suggestion and advice through constructive criticism for the greater unity of Arakanese people and implementing their dream of FREE Fatherland in the name of PEOPLES' REPUBLIC OF ARAKA in the future." Description: "On the 8th of August, 1988, in a south-east Asian country call Burma (now renamed Myanmar), the people all over the country went out to the streets and demanded changes in the country's politics. Peacefully, yet massively and unitedly! All these people wanted a good government which they called democratic civil one which would gaurantee human rights. What followed the fate of the country has been and what all those people achieved was: BULLETS, ARRESTS, TORTURE, BRUTALITY and BROKEN PROMISES. Let us know what is the truth."

Description: " Chin Youth Conference (CYC)/ Lai Mino Pawl (LMP)... Since there is no genuine Democratic Federalism, political equality, proper education, self- determination for all nationalities, the rights to enjoy our freedom and Human Rights in Burma, many thousands of the Chins left our own country and fled towards other countries in order to save our lives. Most of the Chins fled to India as it is the nearest neighboring country of the State. But without retreat or surrender, we the Chin still fight for restoring the genuine Democratic Federalism in our country (Burma) by means of non-violence. Although in the minds of thousands of Chins, who have been displaced in India, Thailand and various parts of the world for a longtime, have a big zealousness to form an active Chin youth organization which would up lift the political movements among the Chin youth and work together with Burma Military dissidents and other ethnic nationalities youth who all fight for the restoration of genuine Democratic Federal Union of Burma, since a very longtime, but only on 1st June 2005, we Chin youth could start our first meeting to initiate the organization and now could smoothly form Chin Youth Conference (CYC) in Chin dialect Lai Mino Pawlkom (LMP). In this CYC every Chin and Chin youth from every corner of the world is openly and cordially welcome to participate and work for political development, Human Rights, justice and to promote education and social development amongst Chins. CYC has the following Aims and Objective: • Political development • Educational development • Social development among Chins. CYC is an independent political organization; therefore it has the right to stand and perform politics freely or work and consult with any organization or any democracy activist that struggle for the democracy reinstallation in Burma. Hence, CYC is ready to march toward the restoration of the genuine Democratic Federalism in Burma."

The new group is called Environment Burma -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/enviroburma A summary of what the new group covers is below. As a private group, only members of Environment Burma will be able to receive group messages, look at them online or view the archive of messages. Environment Burma is the group to which I will post news of Burma environment topics from now on. Members of Green Burma can request (at Yahoo Groups site) to join the Environment Burma group. As long as a membership request is not from a spammer, it will be approved. If commercial spam is sent to the EB group (very unlikely, since it is private) the message & sender will be deleted. Description: "News, publication, discussion and comments on any aspects of life in Myanmar or Burma are welcome. These can be in the form of letters, essays, reviews, poems, comments, short articles, reports or Myanmar News and Reviews. News Stories with links to external webpages. The Postings are not moderated. 'Myanmar_News' is not responsible for the contents of the messages posted." Most postings appear to be from the industrious Okkar ("The New Light of Myanmar", "Information Sheets") and truncated snippets of items from external news sources including BBC and DVB, frequently laundered via the FT. One problem is that the URLs which should take one to the full text at the external source are also truncated, which means that one is taken to the search engine rather than the article. I think it would be better simply to post the full article - they are usually fairly short. Some interesting sources, incl. Pravda.

Description: "This Yahoo group is intended as outreach and feedback for the Online Burma/Myanmar Library -- www.burmalibrary.org Please use the group to learn what new documents have been placed in the Library as well as to give feedback on structure, appearance, usability and content and, in particular, to suggest new documents. These can be in the form of links to documents (articles, conference papers, reports, university dissertations, whole books etc.) which already exist on the Internet. For these, just send the Web address. Documents in electronic form which are not on the Internet can be sent to the Librarian at [email protected] or, if not too long, posted to the group. Documents can be on any subject related to Burma/Myanmar. Since the Library grew out of the human rights documentation work of the Burma Peace Foundation, it contains more human rights material than any other single topic. For this reason, the Librarian is particularly keen to receive documents dealing with other aspects of Burma -- History, Culture, Economy, Health, Geography etc. (see the Library catalogue for a fuller list). Documents can be in any language, including Burmese" INACTIVE

Description: Welcome all VIPASSANA MEDITATORS of the World. This group provides information on Vipassana Meditation, as taught by S.N.Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin. This groups is for all Vipassana meditators of the world. All the events, newsletter and infomation for Vipassana meditators will be posted here. Vipassana is an universal, scientific method towards purifying the mind. It is the practical essence of the teachings of the Buddha, who taught Dhamma - the Universal Law of Nature. Vipassana is one of India?s most ancient meditation techniques. It was rediscovered 2500 years ago by Gotama the Buddha, and is the essence of what he practiced and taught during his forty-five year ministry. During the Buddha?s time, large numbers of people in northern India were freed from the bonds of suffering by practicing Vipassana, allowing them to attain high levels of achievement in all spheres of life. Over time, the technique spread to the neighbouring countries of Burma, Sri Lanka, Thailand and others, where it had the same ennobling effect. Five centuries after the Buddha, the oble heritage of Vipassana had disappeared from India. The purity of the teaching was lost elsewhere as well. In the country of Burma, however, it was preserved by a chain of devoted teachers. From generation to generation, over two thousand years, this dedicated lineage transmitted the technique in its pristine purity. In the past, India had the distinction of being regarded as a World Teacher. In our time, the Ganges of Truth is once again flowing out from India to a thirsty world.
