Title: The former Working Group on Minorities
Description/subject: "The former Working Group on Minorities was established in 1995 pursuant to Economic and Social Council resolution 1995/31 of 25 July 1995 as a subsidiary organ of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (previously called the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities). Between 1995 and 2006, the Working Group held 12 sessions and aimed at being a forum for dialogue. It facilitated greater awareness of the differing perspectives on minority issues and sought better understanding and mutual respect among minorities and between minorities and Governments. It also acted as a mechanism for hearing suggestions and making recommendations for the peaceful and constructive solution to problems involving minorities, through the promotion and protection of their rights. A wealth of work was undertaken by the Working Group not only on conceptualization of the rights of persons belonging to minorities but also good practices and other measures for the promotion and protection of minorities. Numerous papers on topics such as multicultural and intercultural education; recognition of the existence of minorities; participation in public life, including through autonomy and integrative measures; inclusive development; and conflict prevention were prepared and submitted for consideration by the Working Group. A list of those documents is available here. In 2007, the Working Group was replaced by the Forum on Minority Issues, established by Human Rights Council resolution 6/15..."

Title: Working Group on Contemporary Forms of Slavery
Description/subject: The Working Group on Contemporary Forms of Slavery no longer exists, and its successor is the mandate on contemporary forms of slavery, its causes and consequences, established in 2007 by Human Rights Council Resolution 6/14. The last session of the Working Group on Contemporary Forms of Slavery was held from 8 to 11 August 2006 in the Palais des Nations in Geneva . In addition to its usual work on the review of contemporary forms of slavery throughout the world, the Working Group also focused on the implementation of Human rights Council decision 2006/102. In this decision, the Council decided, inter alia, that the working Groups of the Sub-Commission shall contribute to the paper the Sub-Commission has to prepare on its own vision and recommendations for future expert advice to the Council....."

Title: Working Group on Indigenous Populations
Description/subject: "Following a reform to the UN human Rights machinery, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 6/16 to request the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to convene an informal meeting to discuss the most appropriate mechanisms to continue the work of the working Group on Indigenous Populations. The Informal meeting took place in Geneva on 6 December and the morning of 7 December 2007. As a follow-up to the informal meeting the indigenous caucus and a number of governments continued informal negotiations to finalize a draft resolution and submitted to the resumed 6th session of the Human Rights Council. On December 14, 2007 draft resolution A/HRC/6/L.42 (HRC Resolution 6/36) establishing a new expert mechanism on the rights of indigenous peoples was adopted by consensus by the HRC..."
