Amyotha Hluttaw 20 June, 2015: Amyotha Hluttaw undertakes amendments of draft laws [incl. Kaladan bridge+farmland compensation]

"Nay Pyi Taw, 19 June — Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) continued for 64th day on Friday, with a question and answer session, amendment of two draft laws and invitation to interested MPs to discuss a draft law. During the Q & A session, Deputy Minister for Construction U Soe Tint said Kaladan river crossing bridge on Kyauktaw-Paletwa road is set to be built in the fiscal year 2016-2017 following the a bridge design is completed and the cost of the bridge is estimated. On a question about farmland compensations, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Khin Zaw replied that there is no plan to pay compensation for farmlands in the area of building the irrigation channels from Khabaung Dam as the dam was built before Farmland Law and bylaws were enacted on 30 August 2012. During the today?s session, interested MPs were invited to discuss a Bill on Television and Broadcast Law sent back by Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) with amendments. Next, MPs at Amyotha Hluttaw amended four sections and deleted one section stated in the Bill on National Races Development which is in second draft form. Likewise, amendment of 39 sections, deletion of four sections and inclusion of new section in Myanmar Red Cross Society Bill were made."
