"Nay Pyi Taw, 20 March — The Amyotha Hluttaw on Friday agreed to discuss the national education amendment bill as proposed by Union Minister for Education Dr Daw Khin San Yi. The bill committee said the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw passed the National Education Law on 30 September 2014, prompting the student-led Democratic Education Movement Leading Committee to seek its amendment. Following four-party talks, the bill was brought before the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on 17 February, which handed over the case to the Amyotha Hluttaw on 20 February. The amendment of the education law was discussed in the upper house from 5 to 17 March. According to the bill committee, hearings drew nine representatives from the Democratic Education Movement Leading Committee, 20 from the National Network for Education Reform, 34 from political parties, eight from civil society organizations and 15 from educators and legal experts. The bill committee called for the Amyotha Hluttaw to discuss the education amendment bill as proposed by the education union minister by embracing it as a national concern and helping raise the education standard of the country."
