"...The 2002 opium poppy survey was the first comprehensive survey implemented throughout the Shan State of Myanmar by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) of the Government of Myanmar in co-operation with UNDCP, in the framework of UNDCP?s Illicit Crop Monitoring Programme (ICMP)...The present report consists of three main chapters. Chapter one describes the methodology and the implementation of the survey. Chapter two presents the main findings of the opium survey. A third chapter presents a brief socio-economic profile of the northern Wa Special Region which accounts 22% of the poppy cultivation in Myanmar. This study, the first of its kind, could be used for planning activities to tackle the supply and demand sides of opium use in this area. Several annexes present the breakdown of the estimates as well as maps illustrating some of the survey findings..."
