Pyithu Hluttaw 10 March, 2015: Pyithu Hluttaw explains laws on electioneering and campaigning activities

Description:

"Nay Pyi Taw, 10 March — A representative from the TadaU constituency asked the Pyithu Hluttaw here on Tuesday about public campaigns for what action would be taken against in violation of the law on electioneering, with an official of the Union Election Commission responding that nobody is above the election law and that lawsuits could be filed in police stations as for violation of laws prescribed in Section 13. The Union Election Commission announced the Election Law to take action against violators on 16 January this year, according to the official. An MP from Myebon asked whether incumbent representatives and candidates need to abide by the electioneering law and the election law, to which the same UEC official responded, stating that they all must obey the laws. UEC has announced that the general elections have been scheduled for late October or early November this year, with the official saying that political parties are found soliciting for votes although the commission has not yet officially designated the canvass period. He also spoke of speeches and leaflet distribution must be in line with the existing law and the election law."
