Pyithu Hluttaw 14 May, 2015: Pyithu Hluttaw discusses special allowances for defence services personnel [incl. Treatment for hepatitis-C+repealing the Law for Protection of State Constitution 1959]

"The government has no plan at the moment to give allowances equal to their salaries to defence services personnel who are discharging duties in military and security operations, Deputy Minister for Defence Maj- Gen Kyaw Nyunt said at Pyithu Hluttaw session on Thursday. The deputy minister was responding to a question raised by a representative whether the government has plans to give special allowances for military operations. However, all defence services personnel, from privates to generals, are entitled to the allowances of K 10,000 per month for hardship and risks involved in their job, the deputy minister added. Salaries for defence services personnel are the same for those who are discharging duties in military operation and those who are performing ordinary duties, according to the deputy minister. Deputy Minister for Health Dr Daw Thein Thein Htay responded to the question whether the government has plan to treat hepatitis-C. The deputy minister said that there is no plan at the moment to treat hepatitis- C but plans are underway to conduct a survey for outbreaks of hepatitis in the entire country in 2015 in order to collect country representative data in cooperation with Department of Healthcare, Department of Public Health, Medical Research Department, Heart Foundation and Clinton Health Foundation. Based on the data from the survey, future tasks will be selected and implemented, the deputy minister said. Representative U Thein Nyunt submitted the bill to repeal the Law for Protection of State Constitution 1959."
