Pyithu Hluttaw 5 February, 2015: 11 MoUs signed between Govt, local & foreign companies to make assessment of building coal-fired power plants

Description:

" Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Feb — The government has signed 11 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with local and foreign companies to carry out assessments of potentials for building coal-fired power plants, said Deputy Minister for Electric Power U Aung Than Oo. The deputy minister made the remarks at the meeting of Pyithu Hluttaw Thursday as U Myint Soe of Pyawbwe Constituency submitted a proposal to produce power sufficiently with the use of modern technologies including coal-power and nuclear power technologies without damaging the health of the people and environment. However, the government has no plan yet to produce electricity from nuclear power in the country as generating electricity from the nuclear power is under criticism currently in the world, U Aung Than Oo said. He also replied to a question raised by U Aung Kyaing of NyaungU Constituency that power will be supplied to 45 Bagan-era pagodas in Sarle Village in Chauk Township when budget allocation for building a 11-KV cable line in the region is approved. The deputy minister continued to say that regional and state governments have sought budget allocations from the government to build and upgrade 11-KV cables in the respective regions. To supply power to 45 Bagan-era pagodas in Sarle Village in Chauk Township, it is needed to build a one- and- a half-mile-long cable to link the village and a sub-power station in Yenanchaung, the deputy minister said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electric Power is implementing power supply projects with the use of budget allocation from the government and assistance from the World Bank, Asia Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency and loans from the other countries, giving priorities to supplying power to rural areas, U Aung Than Oo said. Besides, the ministry has a plan to build a 230- KV cable line, apart from a 66-KV cable line, to be able to supply power to villages in Gangaw Township."
