"Nay Pyi Taw, 8 June — The government is negotiating an official development assistance loan from Japan to supply fresh water to wards on the far bank of the Kyimyindine and other townships in Yangon, Deputy Minister at the President Office U Kyaw Kyaw Win told the Pyithu Hluttaw session on Monday. On completion of the first phase of the project, the government will be able to distribute 60 million gallons of drinking water to the designated areas, the deputy minister added. The government distributed 3.5 million gallons of water to the wards on the far bank of Kyimyindine last summer, according to the deputy minister. In response to another raised at the session, Deputy Minister for Finance Dr Maung Maung Thein, said it is impossible to return the Sein Brother Building on Pansodan Street and warehouses on 36th Street to its former owner, because the buildings were confiscated by the state in 1986 and the privatization committee has decided to maintain them as public property. The buildings were also the subject of a civil suit, according to the deputy minister. In response to a question about upgrading schools, Deputy Minister for Education U Thant Shin said that some schools cannot be upgraded into middle and high schools as they fail to meet the set criteria."
