PyithuHluttaw 10 November, 2014: Union government sets aside K100 billion annually for natural disasters

Nay Pyi Taw, 10 Nov — The union government has set aside a budget of K 100 billion each year for rescue and resettlement efforts in natural disasters since the 2012-13 fiscal year, Deputy Minister for Finance Dr Lin Aung told the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) on Monday. The deputy minister was responding to a question raised by a representative on whether the Union government sets aside reserve funds for natural disasters. The union government is responsible for the reserve funds and will seek the approval of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw for the spending in each natural disaster at the nearest session, the deputy minister added. Under the guidance of the National Level Natural Disaster Prevention Central Committee, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement also proposes budgets for natural disasters including extreme weather conditions, floods, earthquakes and fire accidents every year. Deputy Minister for Health Dr Win Myint told the Pyithu Hluttaw in his response to a question that the Ministry of Health and related ministries are cooperating for the longevity and health of the public.
