"The following text is an edited transcript of a Public Lecture delivered at the HDB Hub Auditorium on December 15th, 2004 and organised by The Muslim Converts? Association of Singapore (Darul Arqam). The paper deals with the question of the role of religious values in a plural society. Dr Chandra Muzaffar emphasised that it is important to reflect upon the role of religion in a contemporary soceity because there has been a religious resurgence in various parts of the world in the last thirty or forty year. Evidence suggests that religious resurgence has not been helpful in many multi-religious societies. The speaker attempts to explain the reason behind the somewhat negative impact of religious resurgence."
