Description:
HLUTTAW SESSIONS: Pyidaungsu Hluttaw: Losses of state-run industries dominate
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw discussion: "Regarding the situation
of privatization and
state-owned factories and
industries that have been
making losses, U Thein
Aung, Deputy Minister for
Industry blamed the rise
in production costs on the
practice of the market economic
system, saying it has
brought with it changes in
trade policies, the uniformity
of foreign exchange
rates, increased salaries for
state service personnel and
high electricity and fuel
bills."...Pyithu Hluttaw: Cultivable lands reclaimed for farmless
people to help reduce poverty: Lower House: "Virgin lands, wetlands
and marshlands have been
allocated to farmless people
in a bid to reduce poverty
in rural areas, with the land
management committees
turning shifting plantation
into ladder farming in hilly
regions, the deputy minister
for Agriculture and Irrigation
has told the Pyithu Hluttaw
(Lower House).
U Khin Zaw told the
Lower House on Friday that
permits have been granted to
individual farmers to work
on 50 acres of land in line
with the rules and regulations
by management committees.
Lack of funds has made
some regions and states difficult
to reclaim cultivable
lands, despite a vast stretch
of virgin lands, wetlands and
marshlands there."...Amyotha Hluttaw: Labour ministry says setting minimum
wage is time-consuming process: "Steps are being taken
by means of conducting
seminars and meetings and
distributing questionnaires
with a view to collecting
data that can help set the
minimum wage, the deputy
minister for Labour, Employment
and Social Security
has told the Amyotha
Hluttaw (Upper House).
Daw Win Maw Tun,
Deputy Minister for Labour,
Employment and
Social Security, told the
Amyotha Hluttaw on Friday
that discussions relating
to the calculation of
living costs are under way
based on research works,
adding that comparison
should be made between
outcomes of research and
current salaries.
According to her, the
information about the proposed
minimum wage will
be made public 60 days before
approval."..... OTHER DOMESTIC NEWS: Eid Day on 6 October... UPWC, NCCT to hold next round of
