"Dear Mr. President, I would like to take this opport unity to express my deepest gratitude for your strong support for the Myanmar people's aspiration for democracy. I also want to express my sincerest appreciation to the President's Office Cheong Wa Dae's response on August 26th to the public petition that expressed the pledge to continue communicating with the National Unity Government (NUG). It also recognizes the necessity for continued contributions to a resolution that meets the aspirations of the people of Myanmar and calls for a halt to violence against civilians and the immediate release of the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and political leaders. It is a powerful reminder of how the military junta, since staging a coup d'etat against the elected civilian government on February 1, 2021, is arbitrarily detaining the elected government leaders and civilians, now waging war on the people of Myanmar. Despite the military junta's campaign of terror, we are not intimidated. Our National Unity Government (NUG) was formed on April 16, 2021. The NUG follows the earlier formation of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament), which was established by a majority of the Union Parliament members to serve as a provisional legislative body. The NUG is the most inclusive and diverse government in the history of Myanmar, including across ethnicity, gender, generations, and sexual orientation. It is an honour and privilege to have friends from the Republic of Korea especially under your leadership, to support the people of Myanmar at this most crucial time in our fight for democracy and freedom. The Republic of Korea has always been our supportive friend. The NUG and the people of Myanmar are very grateful for your personal support. We hold the values of life, freedom, individual rights, and the rule of law at the core of our fight for democracy. Like your countrymen during times of hardship and trial - when these values were threatened - who rose to the challenge to protect freedom - we are fighting for ours. Each hour of each day sees more acts of civil disobedience taking place against military rule. It is inspiring. We will never give up and we will succeed. To achieve this goal, the National Unity Government of Myanmar (NUG) appreciates the full support of you and your government that stands by our side at the United Nations and other international organizations. Again, I would like to send you my heartfelt gratitude to you and all our friends in the Republic of Korea, for all the help towards our people. Most of all, in the near future, when we vanquish this junta once and for all and a Federal Union is established, I look forward to hosting you in a free, democratic Myanmar and thanking you for your support.
