"Nay Pyi Taw, 2 Feb— Tenth-day meeting of Pyithu Hluttaw session Monday questioned and answered
land seizures of Tatmataw, naming of towns and villages and sexual abuses on women.
In response to the question of Daw Khin Saw Wai, parliamentarian of Yathedaung Township
constituency, Major General Kyaw Nyunt, deputy minister for Defence, said military confiscated some
lands in Zedipyin Village in this constituency for headquarters of Border Area Immigration Control
Command before the lands and buildings were transferred to police battalion under Ministry of Home
Affairs.
He added it is not possible to return the lands to original owners as all the lands are occupied with the
buildings of security forces. Question of Daw Khin San Hlaing, an MP of Pale Township constituency,
was answered by Brigadier General Kyaw Zan Myint, deputy minister of Home Affairs, saying that the
names of villages and towns are officially recognized as have been registered by the ministry.
The deputy minister also explained the suggestion of Daw Nang Say Awa, an MP of Hpa-an Township
constituency, to enact a law to protect women from sexual abuses. The Brigadier General said headed
by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, a body of three committees comprising
representatives of government ministries, parliament, political parties, legal experts, civil society
organizations and NGOs is drafting the proposed law."
