YANGON, 17 July-The following is the full text of the Press Release issued by 
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today:


With regard to the recent statement by Lee Teng-hui on the cross-Straits 
relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued the following Press 
Release.


The Union of Myanmar was one of the first countries which recognized the 
People?s Republic of China when it was founded on 1st October 1949. Since 
then, Myanmar and China have been able to establish kinsfolk-like pauk-phaw 
friendship based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. As a close 
friend of China, Myanmar reiterates its full support to China?s efforts to 
safeguard its sovereignty, dignity and territorial integrity.


Moreover! Myanmar consistently abides by the ?One China Policy? and 
recognizes Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People?s Republic of China.
