Statement by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw with regard to the visit of the Cambodian Prime Minister to Myanmar

Description:

"1. A high-level delegation led by the Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN is visiting Myanmar at the invitation of the coup leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. We have learned that the visit is taking place from January 7 to 8 to discuss bilateral cooperation issues and the progress of the ASEAN. 2. Since 1st February 2021, the military junta has been perpetuating their atrocities and crimes against humanity to secure their power. Thus, the members of the CRPH urges the ASEAN Chair, the Cambodian Prime Minister, who is meeting the coup leaders, to respect the aspirations and efforts of the people of Myanmar for democracy. 3. The crisis in Myanmar today is the direct result of the power grab by the selfish dictator Min Aung Hlaing and his military collaborators. The junta’s security forces are arbitrarily arresting and torturing the people of Myanmar. We are of the view that dialogue with these military leaders committing human rights abuses and other violations against our community will bring no benefits to the Myanmar and its People. 4. As Prime Minister Hun Sen has also taken up ASEAN Chair responsibilities for 2022, the people of Myanmar are outraged that this visit will be construed by the military junta as leading towards a change in ASEAN' position. This position was brought about because the coup leader has refused to cooperate on the ASEAN’s five-point consensus agreed by the ASEAN leaders as an attempt to find a peaceful solution for the interest of Myanmar. We urge Cambodia, a neighbour of Myanmar, to maintain the existing good relations and friendship between the two countries and their people. 5. We reiterate our call for cooperation only with the legitimate institutions including the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw comprising those elected by the people of Myanmar, and the National Unity Government. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw will continue to stand for and represent the will of the people of Myanmar, as the CRPH has the legitimate electoral mandate from the people..."
